I just received a new Rotex 125 and within an hour it is running very hot and in the handle area and it appears to be distributing pieces of Carbon - are it's brushes shot already? I removed the small panels on the handle and it appears to have a lot of fine black dust in there ....

It was used for Rotex sanding for a little over an hour with Granat 40 - should be able to do that for hours i would hope?

Dealer will replace it, but is this unusual?

It has now failed completely -  no life whatsoever ....
Annoying as we planned to use it on a project this coming week.

Take it to where you got it, get back your money (no questions asked) and pick up a fresh one.

Running hot in the beginning is normal - just the gears getting to know each other very well. It will get less eventually, but it will always be warm to the touch.

The black stuff - that's the pad break breaking in. A rubber collar on the inside of the sander around the pad to make sure it doesn't spin up uncontrollably when you life the sander from the workpiece. After a very short while this will be good too.

Sander quiting entirely - this is not within functional parameters - get a new one as suggested.
