RO 150 vs. Belt Sander

I am thinking about the RO 150 sander to replace a worn out belt sander.  I use the belt sander more for glue ups of solid wood panels and some quick paint removals.

I understand the RO 150 can remove material quickly but just seeing if it will keep up to a belt sander.

Thanks!

The RO 150 is pretty fast with removal, but it does not keep up with a belt sander. It doesn't trail too far behind though. In return you get a lot more versatility with the RO 150, like a fine mode, buffing, and very good dust collection. On the other hand, a belt sander has it's own advantages, like the ability to use it stationary.

I'd prefer not to think like "Can the Rotex replace a belt sander?", but get the right tool for the right job. They both have specific things they are good at, with some overlap.

I had the same question. I Talked to a friend about it.  As I already had a RO 150. He told me to get the had ( blue) pad it will do everything I need. I recently got it and he was right. Agrees ice stock removal and more control then a belt sand.

Not a aggressive as a belt sander , but for what I need, flattening panels etc, it does a pretty good job.

You have double the watts of power and a 4x24 belt is 96 sq", the 3x21 is 63 sq". A 150-mm is about 30 sq".

So double the power and double or triple the media area.

I love my Ro, but use Makita 3" and 4" X 24" belt sanders.  I use Fein Flex Hose End Adaptors (from Coastal Tool $1.50) to connect to my vacs.
