I was using my RO90 in the Delta mode today and I noticed a speed shift and then saw black particles on my work.  I shut it off right away and took the Delta pad off and noticed that the sander head was very hot.    I can smell burnt electrical insulation or something similar,  sound familiar to anybody?

The RO90 is belt driven, it could be the belt or the sanding brake.

I assume, that means a trip back to Festool Repair?  I'll call them Monday morning and see what they have to say.  I appreciate any suggestions from Foggers.

Did you have a vacuum hooked up to the tool?  I know dust extraction isn't the best while in the Delta Head mode, but that cooling air going through the pad and sander does help in reducing heat build up.  [blink]

How is the integrity of the delta head?  They are not as robust as the round head and can break down if you are working in a lot of corners/edges -- could that be responsible for the black particles?  Of course, that would not explain the smell, but the RO90 does tend to run hot in my experience.

I spoke with the Festool repair folks and I think that the problem is the plastic attachment cutout on the Delta head has been damaged (probably due to used error - me).

The RO90 is working fine with my circular head so, I just need to replace the Delta head.
