Ro 90 no sandpaper in box?

Well, I can say that when I got mine back in late 2011 it included a fairly sizable sample pack of both the round and triangular papers.

Just got my new Ro 90 today from Rockler, now image my disappointment to crack open the case ready to try out my new sander and find ZERO sandpaper in the box.  What gives?  Is this a Festool thing, a Rockler thing, or a bad luck thing???   [mad]

Has anyone else heard of such an issue?

Your prayers have been answered, courtesy of nanook

I wonder if other mfr's include sandpaper with the purchase of a sander.

I just checked my RO 90 receipt (on my iPhone while sitting in the airport and browsing my cloud based document archive - how cool is that ?) and I did get mine in may 2011 which included an assortment of both rubin and granat in both round and dx 90 papers.

I'd assumed that's how it came from festool but maybe it was the local dealer. We'll never know...they went out of business.

Picked up two of them.  Thanks nanook

If I recall correctly it was a fairly recent change, from sample pack, to single sheet Granat for the sanders lineup.  Sample packs (pre-packed by Festool) are available, but most of our clients go for a custom mix.  We mix abrasives into packs of 10 which clients appreciate.

A funny side story - a client fairly recently purchased a RO90, along with a box of Rubin 2.  I forgot what exact material he was sanding for his counter top, but it kept gumming up the Rubin 2 (much to my surprise).  In the end, it was that single sheet of Granat that completed the entire job.

When I bought my CEROS, I also bought a box each of 80, 120, 180, 220 and 320 grit Abranet discs.  I'm not sure that I needed the 320, but I bought it anyways.  When I got home and opened the tool, I found a package of a sample pack of abrasive discs - one of each Abranet discs from 80 to the top (400 or 600 grit) as well as one each of the 40, 60 and 80 grit Abranet HD discs.  Being able to try them eventually led to my decision to purchase a box of each.  Actually, I wasn't even aware of the HD discs until I found them in the box.

Bottom line:  I don't think it's necessary to include a supply of abrasives with the tool, but I think it was a good marketing idea to include one of each grit - especially the ones that people might think they would not use.

Shane:  To directly answer your question, looking at the abrasives available for the RO90, I would like to see the following grits of round Granat provided with the sander:  40, 60, 80, 120, 180, 220, 320, 400 as well as between one and three triangles of Granat: 120 for sure, perhaps 80 and 180 as well.

As a hobbyist with a Ro90 I had to order an assortment pack of every grit for a good about of money.  It would have been very expensive on my part to get boxes of the grits I want to use.  If anything I'd like to see an assortment pack for the Ro90 with 3 each of 80 120 180 220 or other combinations that would get me Rough, medium and fine grits.  Maybe offer a super fine pack to 240 grit to 600.

Heya NoBreyner (lol.. Awesome call sign [laughing])

If you'd like, we can put together a custom pack for your RO90. If you could please PM me a list of grits / abrasive families (Granat, Brilliant 2.. Etc.) and quantity, we can quote out a set for you.

Let me know! :)
