Rockler Dust Right : Anyone use?

I’m going to add a Sawstop PCS to my workshop (1 car garage).  With Festool, I have all the DC I need, but now have to add a dedicated DC.  Due to space I was looking at the Dust Right system with the canister for the improved dust collection.  The vac has been out for a long time, but I haven’t been able to find any quality reviews on it.  It’s rated at 650 CFM, but I’d like to get some real world accounts on how well or not well it works with a table saw.  My second choice would be the Oneida Mini Gorilla, but it’s 3x as much and will take up valuable floor space. 

Any feedback would be appreciated.

I have the Rockler Dust Right as my main DC and move it to the PCS, router table, bandsaw, drum sander, etc. as needed.  I did add a 30 gallon drum as a "vortex" to collect the bigger pieces.  It works fine for my needs--could it be better? Sure, but in a small confined area such as we both have, it works and is compact enough not needing too much room.  I also bought the Rockler remote & switch so I can power up from anywhere in the room.

Are you getting the PCS with the overarm dust collection and dust bladeguard? If so, add a shop vac for the overarm dust collection -- it will make a HUGE difference.

If you are not getting the overarm dust collection...get it!

Will definitely get the dust blade guard.  Read so so reviews on how well it worked with a dust collector, but I guess using Festool spoils us with duct collection. 
Was debating on the Overarm.  I have the book arm on my CT26, and was think to just using that.  Thoughts?

Will be ordering the Rockler DC with filter and adding the Dust deputy as well.  Seems like a good combo.

I was referring to the Overarm Dust Collection (ODC), not the floating arm dust collection, and you can use the Dust Collection Blade Guard only with the Overarm Dust Collection. If you are thinking of using the dust blade guard alone without the ODC, you will need to find a way to run and hang a hose from the ceiling or up in the air.

Your CT26 will be more than enough for the ODC or dust blade guard.

I’ve been running a SawStop Industrial model for years and it has been an incredible saw. Mine came with the overarm combination dust shroud and blade guard. The suction for the blade guard comes from a T that splits off the 4” main port in the back of the cabinet. The dust collection under the guard was just marginal.

I connected a Festool vac directly to the over arm boom and got incredibly better results. The Festool vac sits under the table top extension. It is connected to a sensor that detects when the saw is switched on. As soon as the saw powers up, the Festool vac powers up. When the sawis turned off, the vac runs for a few seconds an then shuts off.

The main vac is a BIG 2hp cyclone.

I got the saw with the hydraulic base so I can wheel the saw around my small shop.

Thanks for the information.  I have some organizing to do in the garage before I put my order in for the saw but I’m excited.  I use to cut my pieces with the tracksaw and then get everything to size with a Dewalt 735, I’m hoping to eliminate a few steps in the process.    Its done very well but it was time for an upgrade.    [tongue]

I have the DC system on order and will certainly be getting the hydraulic base as well to help moving it around.

Will have to add the Jessem’s  to the future purchase list.  After the Dust Right, Dust Deputy, SawStop PCS w/a number of add-on’s. I’m a bit over budget, might need to sell some of the Festool inventory, lol.

My first addition will be to incorporate a router lift to the extension table.  So that will be some additional room space in the workshop.

I got the DC from Rockler and the Dust Deputy set up the other day.  Now just need to wait for the table saw to be delivered.

I have the dust right and it feels a bit underpowered.  I've been struggling with how to set up my dust collection.  I built a cabinet for the dust right and trash can separator.  That isn't working for me, space wise. 

Finally someone showed me this and I bought the plans.  I finally decided to convert my dustright to this cart.  Then, once I learn how the cart is built, I'll build a second one with a Harbor Freight, as shown in the plans.

Thanks.  I think there are mixed reviews.  Seems if your using it directly for 1 tool it’s fine.  I won’t have duct work so it will only be attached to the SawStop.  The SawStop recommended CFM is 350, so I’m hoping this will do.  If not once I recover from the spending I just did, I’ll go for the mini gorilla.

Any updates on the Dust Right?  I need a collector for my Sawstop, planer, and jointer, just one tool at a time. Considering the Dust Right or the Oneida Mini Gorilla.  Space (12x22x7.5) is an issue but all tools are on mobile bases.  Thoughts?

The Mini Gorilla is a great dust collector on a ridiculously undersized container. When you use your planer you'll fill the container up about ever 15 or 20 minutes of machine work. And, annoyingly, they have no options for a larger container. If you'll never use it with anything except a table saw, you might be happy with it, but I regret the day I ordered one for the shop.

I was happy with it at first but noticed we still have itchy eyes noses etc. Then noticed all the ultra-fine dust collecting around the bag and bad filter. I only run one machine at a time but dust is what I need collecting, so I have the 4" dust deputy and later this week a wynn canister merv 15 arriving. Now after all the extras to get the fine dust I'm into a dust collector with a 1hp 750 cfm capacity of around 800$. Had I know this from the onset I would have done things differently.

I think I would build from parts using the cyclone and wynn filter but I would find a better/larger motor than the 1hp motor, and a larger blower than the 9" that the delta came with. It is too small IMHO and the 1hp is fine if you only connect to one machine and are just a hobbyist doing little more than a project here and there.

Thanks, that seems like a good strategy.  I'm going going to get something ready-made with enough power for one machine, good filtration for a basement shop, smallish footprint, and good quality build.  The Mini Gorilla is my default, but some of the Dust Right units seem ok too.

Plenty of good products out there. I think that mini gorilla needs a bigger bucket and anything with a five-gallon bucket on other than the finest dust catch at the end is too small. I am remaking mine with what I have because I will also only be using it on a piece at a time. My space is limited but I think I can work it out and put the biggest dust and chip offenders nearest an outside wall I can just blow it out. Other items I can move ti to them and use it when I need them inside with great dust collection. Lots of choices and ways to get it done. But when I went down this rabbit hole I had no idea there was such a huge difference in dust collector capabilities and 2 microns sounded really small but in the real world, it isn't close to small enough for inside workshops. Lesson learned. You can build it pretty flexibly and make it work for your shop. You just have to know your needs and desires first. If I was to buy a ready-made unit again it would be a 2hp beast with lots of research done on it to start with.

Honestly, I think my 1hp 9"fan will be fine but I will keep it portable with the shortest possible runs of the duct and slow 90s or 45s where I can use them. But with more power and a bigger fan longer runs would be possible and add some flexibility to how it is set up, flexibility that I will not have with  1hp and a 9" fan.
