Rolair jc 10 ...off to rough start

David,
Sorry for the slight delay in responding, I was just made aware of your issues about an hour ago.  Let me first say sorry for the issues and inconveniences you have dealt with.  I also want to say thank you for your patience and understanding.  Peter (at Tool Nut) has relayed to us your conversations and it’s clear you are a stand up guy.. in this day and age, your level-headed approach is most definitely appreciated.

I know you declined our offer to send a new unit, but we are at least going to insist on sending you out a care package of routine maintenance parts (set of 4 rubber feet, replacement air filter, newer-style ball valve drain  that will be in production later this summer, check valve, and a Rolair shirt for good measure).  That will all be shipping via UPS today.

If you have ANY other issues, please call our customer service line directly at 800-310-3573. I know you mentioned not wanting to deal with a lengthy warranty process, but I can tell you that’s not how we operate.  We are very old-fashioned when it comes to customer service, and you will actually talk to a real person at our factory, who is very knowledgeable (the average length of service time is over 18 years), and fully authorized to make sure the customer is taken care of.  You will not get the run-around.

Please, for anyone else who has a question or concern, reach out and give us a call.  It’s the quickest way to take care of your needs. (Rob Z – sounds like you have a pending issue, if you give us a call we’d love to look into it and perhaps call the service center to see if we can expedite the process.)

Thanks again for the feedback.  We’re here if you need us.

mike,
My jc 10 has been running great the past three days, and sure it will continue, after the minor problems in beginning . Thank you very much for the care kit. If I ever have an issue with my rolair, I won't hesitate to call your customer service,as you suggested. I can honestly say that I have never  received a response from theV.P. of any tool  company. Sounds like you stand behind and believe-in your product , and a willingness to improve. I was beginning to question my purchase of jc-10 , now I'm quite confident I made the right decision .          Thanks again, David
Also thank you to Peter @ tool nut!  I'm still impressed and was sharing my story today with guys on the jobsite.

Mike @ Rolaire,
I gave a fairly extensive report on FOG a few months ago, maybe a year ago.  The biggest and best surprises for me were:
1    I was able to use my impact air wrench.  I even use it for dismounting and remounting truck tires (wheels)
2  I use it for inflating truck and trailer tires as well.  It does not fill a tire with one cycle, but it only takes me just under three minutes to fill each trailer tire to 60#s pressure.  With my previous compressors, (from 5 gal to 10 gal capacities) my recovery waiting time was more the that. With my larger (no named here) compressors, I could not get up to 60 #'s without blowing fittings apart. This JC 10 just hums along with no problem.  I have talked to many of my friends, AND my competitors, about this little giant.
3    I use it for removing and remounting mower blades twice per week. I have only had to use a breaker bar to loosen a blade one time in the year I have been using the JC 10.  I tighten the blades with the #2 setting.  At that setting, blades never come lose; and I never need the bar to get blades off.

I know these items are not related directly to Wood Working, but they are what earn the $$$'s to support my hobby. That little compressor is definitely a winner.  It seems the you guys who handle it are also winners.

I am as impressed with the reports of your followup service (here on the FOG) and the assistance you have offered thru this thread and others previously.  I have not needed assistance yet, but it is great to know it is available.  Between you and the Nuts at that Tool Place (toy store) I have a great deal of confidence.

Good morning Mike

Thanks for the offer to assist the repair shop. I need to take another tool to their shop today and will pass this along.

We love how quiet and smooth the JC 10 is.  I sold off all our pancake compressors and the large compressor that we used for framing guns and have been thrilled that we don't have to use hearing protection just to switch on a compressor (the older ones were LOUD).

I just bought a Rol Air compressor to use for the framing guns. So far, it has worked well for us.

Well, add me to the list of JC-10 owners.  Just placed an order with the Tool Nuts a little while ago.

Peter

I just wanted to amend my previous post.  I am a JC-10 owner now - it is in my truck, but even the great guys at ToolNut couldn't get that tool to me in a couple of hours over a thousand miles away.

On my way to an appointment I called the ToolNut and placed a telephone order.  I received a copy of the shipping order and the receipt via email.  I was HAPPY!  I have a project inside a condo over the next two weeks and I didn't want to listen to my old Porter Cable pancake compressor.

After that appointment I had some time until the next so I took the opportunity to visit a store that I usually only visit when I need to buy coil nails for my siding gun.  Yesterday I had melted a hole in my 100' Flexsteel hose on my big compressor.  I hoped that they would have a splice or repair fitting for my 5/16 hose whereas it was private labelled by them.  As I walked in the door I saw a special for the JL-10 at a price I haven't seen in six months on the internet, while supplies last.  I asked if they had one and the answer was yes.  They also had a splice fitting for my hose.

I then did something that I have never done before - I call ToolNuts and asked to cancel my order.  Peter James was fabulous and I soon got an email notifying me of the cancelled order.  To all the Tool Nuts:  I am sorry.  But you GUYS ROCK!

When the salesman brought my compressor up front he walked to the display to get the SKU number and then he gasped.  Nobody had realized that the old outdated sale pricing on the JC-10 was still posted.  He toke that signage down and I went and handed him the one that was by the front door.  They did the right thing and honored the sale price without me even asking.  That is what good retailers do.

Sorry again ToolNuts.  That would have been my first purchase from you.

Peter

Peter, we'll get you next time! Maybe we should start selling 3D printers with a JC10 programmed in....... Awesome price on that compressor - we wish we could still get them at that price. Let us know how you like it, and try not to break it to get a free shirt!  ;D

Luis,
Cheers to you as well! Thanks for the kind words.  How about we compromise on the customer care package... if you agree not to purposely break your compressor, I’ll agree to send you a free Rolair shirt.. deal? :)  Just shoot me your address when you get a chance - we want our gear worn by people who love good tools.  This seems like a fit to me.

Also, Kevin and Tinker.. thank you for your kind words, and I’m glad you love your JC10.  We try our best, but admittedly we aren’t perfect.  Your positive feedback is definitely appreciated, and I’d love to send you both some Rolair stuff to go with your nice looking compressor. Shoot me your address when you can.

With that, I should just mention that the moderators on this board are really good and they reached out when we first joined to make sure we used it properly (i.e. not for promotion).  So I want to be careful and respectful of their wishes.  So let me just finish with this..

We are aware this board is filled with a lot people who have used Rolair for years.  Thank you.  We’re extremely grateful for the many kind words that have been shared here.  If you have a story to pass along, please do so to my email below. I love to hear them.  And hey, if some Rolair stuff happens to show up in the mail a few days later.. maybe it was just coincidence. :)

Thanks again,

Mike Kelley

So Mike, when will we see these brilliant little compressors here in the UK (and in 230V)?  [poke]

And how long until we can buy one in a systainer? [big grin]

Not soon enough, Jonny! I like how you think! We'd actually love to make them available in the UK.  We get quite a bit of inquiries as it is, but to this point we haven't found the right match with an entity/partner that could help us make that leap.  It's only a matter of time, though.  It makes too much sense.

I'll try to flag/file this so that when the first Rolair becomes available, I can come back to you with some good news.. and see if you want to be customer #1.  [big grin]

Thanks for reaching out!

Thanks go to Mike at Rolair.  Mike got his service staff at Rolair to work with  my local tool repair shop to diagnose the problem and order the parts.

BTW, if anyone needs a reference for a good tool repair shop in NoVA, call Jimmy at Tool Tech in Chantilly. 703-870-7442. I've taken dozens of tools there over the years and he and his staff have always done good work for us.

Just by coincidence, a floppy package showed up in my mailbox today.  I have no idea where it came from,  ::) but I opened it anyhow.
The Rolair T-shirt that was inside fits perfectly.  And it is even quieter than my JC 10, if that is possible [big grin]

Mike , received my care package & t-shirt yesterday. I can't thank you enough. Ball valve for drain plug looks way better and very well made. But more important, my jc-10 has been heavily used the past week and is working like a champ!  The jc-10 gets a lot of interest from other guys at jobsite....seems like everyday someone comments or ask questions about it.    Thanks David

I just found another use for my JC 10.
I just bought an air actuated grease gun. With my old grease guns, my hands sometimes cramp (pistol grip for one hand operation).  A few weeks ago, ihurt my hand and could not use the old gun.  So, the solution was to get the air gun.  I bought one that the parts did not match up without a real micky mouse arrangement.  went to a different store and got one my son recommended for me.  (Lincoln Grease Gun)  What used to take me 15 minutes on my mower with my old hand gun, I am now able to do in less than five.  I never had to wait for compressor recovery.  I don't know how other compressors would behave with lubing, but it is just one more operation that has given me another level of satisfaction.

Well, I had a little issue with my JC-10.  A leaking drain valve .  Made a phone call, got to customer service quickly.  Super nice.  Would send out a replacement.  Then a couple of days ago I got a handwritten card from customer service apologizing for my situation and letting me know that a replacement part was on the way.  I received the part yesterday and will install the new style drain valve later.

Customer service after the sale can't get much better than that!   [thumbs up]

Thank you ROLAIR!

Peter

Update:  I got my JC10 back today.  The guys at Rolair got the parts to my local shop right away and the compressor is fixed!

Thanks for the help, Mike.

peter, the new drain valve is much better than old style. It's a ball valve and I'm really happy with it.

I totally agree!  All drain valves should be so nice.

Such nice drain valves must just rub off on customer service personell  [thumbs up]

Mike Kelley,
Thank you for your response with my compressor issues. After reading all the responses of how you have handled other buyers concerns, I feel you are a class act and that you represent Rolair with high regard and willing to do what it takes to make sure we consumers are more than satisfied with your products. Because of how you have handled this thread, I have since shared this topic and the pride I have with my compressor with a friend of mine, and we each purchased another JC-10. Thank you.

Update.....the screw that holds the piston on to rod, sheared off and caused major damage to one cylinder .  Called rol air ,they referred me to a great repair shop in the area. Everything for repairs was covered under warranty. I was out my compressor for two weeks. Rol air was alittle slow on getting parts to repair center. That's really my only complaint.
Rol airs customer service ----  A+
  Recommended repair shop-----  A+
Would I buy another or recommend jc-10 ------  not a chance. I'm really disappointed in giving a negative update, because the jc-10 is perfect for my needs in every way accept  reliability .
