Here is a new video from Ron Paulk an updated workbench which is slick !

i have to agreee.
althow it does lok like a good table.

i dont see any main changes (or anything that would justify making this one over the older version.
 
Not sure where the cynicism is coming from : for the very modest price he was offering them for, I doubt he was getting rich selling those plans.
 
its a great table i use it all the time in the field and yes ron is busy working and I thank him for sharing his idea, and if you think of something that will help us all then post it !
 
I think any criticism of Ron Paulk is unfair, I bought the plans a year or so ago and can't recommend it enough. Works for me and got me in  the game for something like $10.

Even in the first plans Ron said it was open to personal modification based on your workflow and I like the inclusion of the router as part of the bench,

i think il clarify my statments. or rather my agreement with others views

i like rons bench , its a great design. i loved his mobile workshop series. i wish i could use a big van like that here. i also watch all his other you tube videos

im not critisising ron , i just wish he was here more often .
 
I believe I can criticize if I want.  You can say it ain't so, which isn't going to make me change my opinion.
 
Well we're all entitled to our own opinion; this is mine...

I've lurked on here for years and years... I have gained so much valuable information, tips, solutions, etc that I can't even list them...

On the other hand- we all contribute back what we can... Clearly I have contributed nothing! So I can certainly be criticised on that point.

I bought one of Paul's very first plan sets... I even conversed via e-mail with some suggestions, etc which Paul took on. I did this knowing I'd never build that table... Because it was the best way I could contribute back to the forum....
I'll most likely buy this new plan set as well because I'ts an appropriate thank-you for all the massive contributions Paul has made via his video's, etc

This is my very first post and I've been pushed off the fence so as I can say "Thank You Paul!" for all the very valuable contributions you have made made... And I hope continue to make... I'm certainly more than happy to make a $10- donation if it helps those creative juices to flow...
 
First,  Welcome to the FOG!  Glad those lurking days are over.  You will probably sleep better at night. [big grin]

Regarding Ron and his plans.  When Ron spent days and days developing his plans and doing videos and then announced that he was offering the plans for sale there was an outcry and general nastiness on some internet places.  How dare he charge?  They should have been free.  How dare you use our place to market your plans.  All that kind of stuff.

That didn't happen here, but - and I am not speaking for Ron at all, these are just my observations and pure conjecture on my part - the other stuff would have been enough for anyone to throw all their computers in the trash and say never again.  I know I would have.

We don't have rules regarding how active a member must be.  We are seeing more and more so called lurkers joining and becoming active and honestly I think much of that is attributed to the fact that usually we keep this place friendly.

Re:Paul, I concur and would also add that apart from throwing all your computers, etc in the trash... It can't be easy to keep 'popping your head up' when some people take the opportunity to 'criticise' your every efforts when you do so.

My take on Paul is that he's got pretty broad shoulders and from my experience (similar vintage) we tend to take a much broader perspective on 'life' as we 'mature'

The thing I don't understand is the Festool shirt while he's promoting his bench plans and non Festool table saw, router, tracks, etc, etc.

I can imagine his bench working for some people and I'm happy for them - but it's not for me. I also think the saw looks unsafe.

I wish he'd stop using the word "ultimate". It reminds me of TV advertising that promises steak knives and more ... Oneida use "ultimate" too. It urks me [blink]

On the subject of paying for plans, I'm happy to pay for something truly innovative (such as Timtools very clever projects). I wouldn't pay for Ron's bench plans, but that's simply my personal choice.

 
Ok I'll bite...

But in an analogy...

Sometimes I will discuss my children with my wife....

Invariably the walls have ears and one of my children will announce, "I can hear every word you're saying."

My response goes something like,"That's ok because we're talking about you, not to you." ..... : grin
 
Kev, just for your information ron has and uses quite a few of festools including the ts55 and rails and ct and many others... the saw is only unsafe if not used correctly.  and your opinions are fine, i always enjoy reading positive and negative stuff that is whats great about this forum we can all throw our 2 cents in and still be friends...

i love ron,s bench and to me it is an ultimate bench for me... use it all the time plus I have 2 mft 3 in my shop and I use his bench on jobsites day in and day out and I am about to make another one as I have thoroughly abused the 1st ones top !  it is all sliced and diced up..

and I am going to add the slot for the new KREG clamps that are coming out june 15 that need no adjustment  they clamp tight on any size board and for making face frames flush they are awesome... if you want to see them go to kregtools site they are there and they are awesome...

No, I posted the video, then headed out on vacation for 2 weeks, but the trip was cut short when my little brother died. Now that services are done, I am heading home and hopefully will get my head back into daily life. If for no other reason than as a distraction.

I too haven't built Paul's bench but have bought the plans.  The cost is nominal for the ideas he shared.  From those plans, I've been able to tweak them to my liking.  If it wasn't for Paul and other members, I would still be staring at this blank white screen.

Positive or negative, we have all learned something from these videos.
