Rotex 90 and finish sanding

Hello. New Festool user here and first time on this forum. I have two sanders: Rotex 90 and the PRO 125. My question is this. If I use the Rotex with 80 grit paper to rough sand a table top surface can I then just switch to the "finish" mode on that same sander and go up grits or should I switch to my finish sander and repeat 80 grit then go up grits? Ive read a lot of opinions but can't seem to find a straight answer. I hope this makes sense. Thanks in advance.

You can use either sander for the finish grits.

The 125 is going to take you a LOT less time and be more comfortable progressing through the grits.  The 90 is a two handed sander regardless of whether it's in rotary or finish mode.

Thanks. Do you suggest starting at 80 for finish using the 125 after using 80 with the 90?

Rough sanding? You removing paint, flattening a surface or taking a glue up and evening it out? Photos would help? 80 grit you will be ther for a while if you want aggressive on wood I like the Ruben paper for rough sanding when I’m in a hurry, or I need to hit high spots efficiently. I like the Ruben in 40 and I think I have 60 grit. 60 grit is a better place to start when 40  grit is too aggressive. Starting at 80 grit you’ll be there for days.... I’m typing blindly without seeing what you’re up against?

Finish sanding an entire table top with the Rotex 90? No. That doesn't become flat and is way too much work. This is what the ETS 125 is for.

agree. I wouldn't even touch the tabletop with the 90mm. at 80grit it can easily hollow out spots and create deep scratch patterns too deep to easily remove.
