Ok so it's been less than a week, that I purchased my last 3 festool tools This crap is way to addictive, at this rate I'll be broke before 2015! Bought the RO 125 sander today as I was trying to cover my bases  trying to find a one size fits all, with the minimum of cash, how'd you folks like this one? Do you think I'll still need another machine? I nearly bought the RO 150 instead, but I thought that was to aggressive.

I can definitely relate to your situation! I have been watching this sander too! I am curious to see the other replies to your post.

My educated guess is that the recommendation is to keep the RO 125 because sooner or later you will end up with the RO 150 and a couple of other sanders to polish off the collection!

Take time to break it in. Better once it is, you'll get a feel for it. Its a bit of a cumbersome beast that can get away on ya and there is a learning curve to using it. Hold it near the cord fitting for balancing when using it. My girlfriend hates it as it's too aggressive for her hands and can skip wildly. So she get's to use the rolls royce ETS 6" incher. Smooth as.
Only thing I'd mention otherwise is the size of the abrasives being 5 inch, so for any later date sanders you may get, you either keep with 5 inch and match to the ETS or go the larger 6" but you'll need to get extra abrasives then so can be costly. Get the protector pad, saves marking and damaging. Next will be the R090!

I have the RO125 and it works great with some break in time. I complemented this with the ETS 125, which I actually use much more for the work I do than the RO125. They are both great sanders. I like the smaller size, because I don't have very large hands, so they are very comfortable to use. I am saving for the RO90 for detail work and I think I will be good on the sanding equipment. I do have a RTS400, but very rarely use it.

If you wanted a one size fits all kind of sander, the RO150 would have been a better choice. With its bigger pad most jobs get done quicker than with the RO125. My 150 gets the most use by far, I only use the 125 if the 150 doesn't fit.

I own 11 Festool Sanders and each has their best uses at some point with what I'm working on at the time I'm needing that particular sander.
Decide if you primarily sand larger/flat surfaces, or do you tend to mix it up with small work and larger work, etc. Doing this will help you weed out uneeded purchases in the future as you think about other sanders.
Not that it's happened to me..... [wink]

The RO 125 is the only sander I have, so have nothing to compare it to. I've had it a very long time and used it an enormous amount. I find I hardly ever use it in orbital mode. Perhaps just habit. And eventually discovered it was easier to use with the vacuum turned down low. I've successfully removed large amounts of wood with 50 grit; and sanded surfaces to a shine with 320 grit and a polishing pad.
