Before I got the sys 1 router case and Boeshield lubricant for my router bits, about the first eight bits I ever owned fell pray to rust. Probably something about no drywall or insulation, but 100 degree heat and 0 degree cold.

What is the best method of removing rust from router bits? Thanks Eric

Update, rust is only on the router bit, not cutter head, but makes me mental, nonetheless. WD40 hasnt done squat even with green scrubby assistance after ten minutes soaking, thanks Eric

They have that at the town hardware store, gonna see what others say, but that looks like the front runner. Loctite has always been good to me also, Eric

What do we think of applying naval jelly, letting sit, buff with steel wool?

I have much experience with steel wool as i grew up in a slave labor camp and my dad used to make me buff the pots and pans with Bonami, I was a bas kid, Eric

The BoeShield guys make this Rust Free  I just used it  a couple days ago. It works quite well. I used it on some drill bits , wiped off the rust with a towel. Main ingredient seems to be phosphoric acid.  Wipes and dries up  almost immediately , so you can put the BoeShield on right away.

That website linked to ..... I just discovered , looks like they have a ton of rust removal and prevention products.

I just recently got the Boeshield, on sale at Woodcraft, but I will look into that other stuff, Eric

Rust Free is $12.59 at Woodcraft. I will get some next time im there and give a review, thanks guys, Eric

I got a bunch of rusty router bits with a used OF1010 I bought once. Put them in Coca Cola for a couple of hours, worked great.

Not good to let them in too long though, I left two bits in for over a day and they were permanently discoloured.

Makes on wonder about drinking coke doesn't it?

Just dropped them in Coca Cola. Will report back at 930 EST. i chose this method over the others bc my wife just brought home some coca cola and im lazy. Im also American and need immediate results on everything, Eric

Me, not really. I know the science behind it. It works because Coke has phosphoric acid in it. Many foods have acids in them. The acid inside your stomach used to digest food is even a lot stronger. So your body can stand the acid in coke without problems. Now the sugar ....... that's a whole different story.

Just took them out of the coca cola after 2 1/2 hrs. Noticeable transformation took place. Since i am gonna fall asleep soon i took them out for the night, but kept the cola for some more soaking tomorrow after work.....Eric
