One thing ive learned if festool offers a kit. I buy it. I may not always use everything in the kit. But if I need it I got it.
In this case the step base for routing useing a guide rail is in the kit along with a few other bases.

Do they make the same kind of thing for the 1010 and the 1400?
leecab said:[member=4541]Ron[/member], If you are edge planing a 4 or 5 meter board that is say 10" wide you would need a benchtop that long and truly flat for your method. I haven't got that so I have to rely on the board itself to support the router the rail and the rail guide adaptor.

If you are edge planing a 4-5 meter long board, you should be more concerned about keeping your rails straight. This alone is a fairly serious issue. It's a concern enough with a track saw, which is not trying to pull it off line. A router is far different in this aspect. Clamping the rails at the ends is nowhere near good enough.
