Hi

I am a kitchen fitter and currently have a Trend router. I was wondering if the OF 1400 is a suitable router for worktop joints. Also I have a festool midi dust extractor. Is it good enough for the OF 1400?
Thanks in advance

It's certainly capable of doing it, but it wouldn't be my first choice.

The OF1400 is a bit of an all rounder/jack of all trades - and can be used for lots of routing scenarios but doesn't really specialise in any. It's not especially lightweight for delicate/detailed work, nor is it a power house.

I have a Trend TK11EK for heavy work like worktops. It's got a lot of grunt and when being used with a bush and worktop jig that's all that really matters. If you wanted a Festool router for regular kitchen work the OF2200 would be more appropriate.

we used my of 1400 for 9 corian vanities and sink tops a couple months ago. Used it with a guide bit to do the roundover edge into the sinks after we glued the sinks. Make quick dustless work of it and asked for more. My coworker was so impressed with how well it worked over his old set up that he went out and got an of 1400 the next week.

I cannot speak to the usefulness for what you want to do. I can, however, tell you I use mine with a 26E extractor. It is critical you use the duct collection "collar" which comes with the router. The collar greatly reduces the visibility of what you are cutting. I wish Festool would have designed the 1400 dust collection the same way as the 2200. In my case I couldn't use the 2200 because it's just too big and heavy for what I do.
