routing

Is therea smart way to set up an OF1010 to rout some cavities in a level surface, and it should be four lines, coming together in a square?
I have trouble in doing so, because I can't really get to use any marks on the router/guiderail/connection. I tried marking with some tape, but not enough precise.
ps: I am an absolute newbie in this.

Would the MFS 400 or 700 help you?  Check it out on Brice's website.

Try a pair of limit stops.  Set your router where you want the groove to begin, snug up a stop behind it.  Set the router at the end of the groove, snug up a stop in front.  All grooves will be the same length.

MFS is also a great solution, but pricey.  Worth it though.

If you know the size of the square you want to make, you could make a very rudimentary frame (i.e. butt joints, or even Dominos).  This would give you a reference edge all the way around, and just use a template routing bit.  Clamp it down and there you go.  You would almost certainly have to move and adjust the clamping to allow the router base to pass all areas.

This is similar to what you'd do with the MFS, but of a predetermined size.

Hi Jacques,

Mark a set of lines all the way around the perimeter of your piece.  The lines should be where you want the center of the bit to be.  The center marks on the base plate would then line up with the center lines on the work.  Using the guide stops would help you ensure that you do not route too far on the rail at the point of intersection.  This works extremely well.

Hi Jacques,

Do you have a TS saw?  You can use the limit stop supplied with the saw as a stop.  I really like the stops with the kip lever as it secures to the channel and the t-track -- more flexible.

Hi Scot,
Yes I do have a TS55EBQ-Plus-FS.
There is a shallow place in the inlay in the systainer, which is supposed to have one, but unfortunately there is not. I'll get one after Christmas.
I got a nasty cold after staying in the garage (cold floor) for some hours the other day, trying to rout this thing. I cut my FS1400 by accident and scraped my ordinary drill bit chuck as well. Not my day  [crying]
