RPM for 35mm hinge bit?

Part # 491077, the standard 35mm bit that comes with the LR32 set.

I've used it with the 1010 at min speed and it seems to cut fine although it spits out dust instead of chips. But I was setting it up on the drill press today and wondered what the recommended speed actually is. SO I looked on the shank and it says "nmax 27000 e0.1"". Assuming the "e0.1" is scientific notation, I'm thinking that means 2700 RPM, but is that a valid assumption? I set it at 1440 and it cut fast and threw chips about like you'd expect from any segmented Forstner bit.

I ran a search here and couldn't find anything definitive so my apologies in advance if this has been covered.

Thanx,
Bill

Bill,

Here is a link I found:  35 mm Euro Hinge Drilling

I would assume after reading that thread that experimentation might be in order, but start from the lowest setting on the router.

I routinely use a cat 491 077 35mm Euro-hinge boring bit in one of my OF1010. I use the minimum speed on the OF1010.

We also do a lot of LR32 5mm shelf pin hole drilling and 35mm hinge boring on our CNC nested router. Those bits are designed for the much higher minimum speed of the CNC router.

I looked at my 35mm bit in the LR32 kit and it's clearly a router bit, not a drill style bit.  I don't know what the E0.1 indicates, but mine also says 27000 max and I would think that's the maximum safe speed in rpm's to run it.  It is 35mm or 1 3/8", so 27,000 rpm max doesn't seem like an odd speed for a router bit that size.

There is a video on youtube from a festool training session where the instructor said that the speed of the 1010 router should be set to '1' for drilling the cup hinge holes.
