It may be my imagination, but I don't think so.  I am thoroughly impressed with Rubin paper.  I have not tried the other versions, yet.  It seems that I can't wear it out, usually the edges give up before the field.

Have you used the Granat yet?

My experience with Rubin is the exact opposite, I find it is very short lived.

Nevertheless the best paper for bare wood.

As far as Festool paper none of it last very long(Rubin a very short life span for me), but I generally only use Saphir now. I find Saphir the longest lasting of the Festool papers and good enough for my type work(generally flooring inlays).

I've only used Granat with my Ro 150. I can't seem to wear it out. After sanding very rough boards to silky smooth it's still good to go. Maybe Festool sandpaper is just that good.

I thought Granat was for metal

I haven't seen saphir at my brick and mortar stores.

I have a bunch of Rubin 2 in various grits if anyone is interested, let me know.
I now use almost all granat for my projects

Granat has got to be one of the best all round papers going. I use it for all kinds of applications in all the grits, from preparing surfaces to paint to hand finishing cricket bats prior to hard waxing. Well worth having a disc or two of Saphir in your box for when you really need to bully something, though. It doesn't get hot. I've stripped bitumen from old floor boards without it clogging before and once I even used it to smash down a chipboard sub-floor that had been installed higher than the top nosing of a staircase in a floor laying job. Quicker and cleaner to shape it with a p24 disc than anything else I had to hand.

[member=64733]Naildrivingman[/member] Granat is actually the best all purpose paper, and works great on wood (and longer lasting the Rubin in my experience).  Saphir is normally for heavier duty applications, and comes in a limited range of lower grits (max 80 grit), but it's thicker backing and grit layer does make it last a lot longer than other papers.

I just came across a sample pack of Granat.  It is better than Rubin for the initial cut, but it does seem to wear out quicker.  It seems to me that Rubin does not cut as quickly, but lasts longer and Granat cuts quicker, but doesn't last as long.

Regardless, I have a whole Systainer full of Rubin.  It's gonna be awhile for Granat.

I think Rubin 2 is better than the first version was.  The original Rubin for me cut okay through a Disc's life, but performance dropped off pretty fast in cutting ability as compared to either Rubin 2[Current Rubin] or Granat.
I kind of saw the same thing with the now-gone Cristal as compared to Granat. Very good cutting action at first but didn't last as long as a disc of Granat for me.
Saphir is sort of in its own league these days.... [smile]

I very rarely sand anything else.

Ive always wondered how the lifespan for Garant compares to the Mirka Abranet sheets.  My first Festool sander is in the mail and on it’s way.  I guess I’ll find out.
