rustic hickory dining room table

Here is a rustic hickory dining room table I made I used dominos to glue up the pieces, many many dominos ! then I stained it with aged oak stain and several coats of wipe on quick dry laquer.  the legs were also glued up... I just love this rustic hickory... I am in the process now of doing a complete 12' long bar/bookcase built in that is looking awesome to the max and will post soon when done this week

I was looking casually at the first thumbnail on my iPad and I thought I saw a MASSIVE table top on two glass block supports ... yeh, double take! But now I have myself thinking ... two glass block support towers with some internal lighting under a classical big table top [big grin]

We can access pretty much anything in Oz for a price. I know there's a lot of flooring options in various hickory varieties sold ... but I haven't seen "Rustic".

There are a lot of furniture grade hardwoods available here, but I honestly haven't searched for Hickory - never really thought about it before.

Nice one Kreg, I do have  a predilection for timber slab type tables, like the old farmhouse kitchen ones.
One quick question though....what makes the Hickory  "Rustic" is it something like a heat treatment that seems to be used more now?

Must admit whilst deciding whether or not to look at the post, hadn't realised there was a, sort of, category of hickory referred to as rustic.
So, I was expecting pictures of something, err, 'rustic;'  perhaps a couple of old beat up planks, resting on a couple of old beat up saw-horses.

I believe its the way it looks the knots and dings in the wood make it look well old. Most o the normal styles wouldnt have a lot of knots etc.

At least when i made my Rustic Hickory Kitchen thats what I used

Yep rustic has knots. Bug or termite tunnels real small though. And better mix of colors.  That's the major difference. If you want dings and stuff then that can be added especially with the Rotex. Or the planner head

I try to add those details sometimes

Ah! That' s more like what we might term "distressed" over here. [smile]
Accomplished by A) using re-claimed timber, or B) making something from new wood then beating the stuffing out of it with chains, cobble sets etc. [eek] (Artistically of course  ;D )
