Sablon Jig Set

Re reading my post it may sound like I am knocking Festool. I own an OF1010, Mft/3, TS 55 a a few clamps, rails including the "Holy Rail" and other accessories and systainers.

I am just knocking the prices we pay here in Australia.  The same kit in the UK retailers for AUD$530,  a big difference.

I am trying to find a cost effective alternative.  I am also looking at the Bosch FNS OFA 32 kit which accepts the OF1010.

I have the Bosch, and it works o'roight.
The top of the range would be a Mafell DD40 and castleated rail... Assuming that ones does a lot of 32-mm holes.
I got the Bosch from a mob is Brissy

I found I needed to attach the short holey rail, to another Bosch rail to extend the 32-mm patter (I spent ~ 120-cm)

How often would you be needing to do holes in 32-mm?

Not every time I am in the shed, unlike router, saw, sander or bench.

That's why I can't justify $715

You should do what I used to do just use a sheet of mdf mark it out then drill it with a 5mm bit and then use a hinge jigg  from bunnings and there you have it a cut price LR32 that served me well on many jobs for years but saying that.....

I bought one just at the end of the tax year hadn't used it much thought I had wasted my money.

Had a job last week building a couple woodworking units for a girls school well it was revelation not so much for drilling the holes in the caucus though it does that well but drilling out the hinges and the door handles it saved me so much time. the hinges  were spot on just walked over to the cabinet clicked on the doors always perfectly lined up.

Personally I think it is well worth the cash just for the professional look it gives to my non cnc'd cabinets and it may take about 10 mins to set it all up but once its up and running its fast.

I hear a lot about the DD40 in relation to the LR32 and just a quick question can you set them up to do your door handles at for example @ 64mm centers also can it cut out your hinges as well as I nearly bought one when I was living in the UK and I am in the process of buying one of there jig saws at the moment

Yes the Rolls Royce of hole drilling is an LR32, but I am researching alternatives.

Has anyone used or seen the Sablon Jigs.  There website is professional and the videos look good.

Are there any comments on the Sablon jigs even from those who, as i have, only seen the videos?

I am not a production house so speed is not a priority but repeatability and ease of use is, it will not be used every day, but I don't want to get the manual out everytime i use it.

I would love an LR32 but can't justify the price.  Its not a money thing, my next Festool purchase will be the Domino XL as most of my work is edge banding solid wood on solid wood or laminating solid wood.  I can justify the price of the Domino XL as it will be far better than the biscuit jointer I am currently using.

I have an LR32 and for ease of use once it is set up it's brilliant. If you are doing floor to ceiling cabinets it will do all the 5 mm holes in one setup and the hinges in another.

But it won't do handles and it won't do any holes in completed cabinets.

From what I have seen in the videos of the Sablon it looks like a really well designed system that I think you will be very happy with.

...

The Rolls Royce is the DD40, but it also at Rolls Royce pricing.
Clearly if one was doing 32-mm holes all day, and did not want to sit back and watch a CNC, then it is optimal.

The LR32 and Bosch are both pretty straight forward.

Some of the more old school jigs also are not overly complicated or prone to setup skill/complexity.

Basically it comes down to cost versus time. As I do not do a lot of 32-mm holes, I went with the Bosch, and I have Bosch rails.

The LR32 also makes sense if one has FT rails.
