Hi.  I just got a new ets ec 150/5 sander.  Everything works great, but when I put on the Festool pad protector I get a side to side wobble .  I take the protector off and it goes away.  I have been very careful to centre the pad when placing it in the sander. But still a wobble.  Any help??

Hi,

  Welcome to the forum!

Do you mean the squishy foam interface pad?  If so that is nature of the beast. Pretty much unavoidable with the soft foam pad.

As Seth mentioned it's virtually impossible to get an interface pad centered properly. As a result it unbalances the sander and you get vibration even with the thinner pads. Generally speaker those thin- pads are used when you employ the mesh /net abrasives to protect the hooks on the pad from over heating.

The additional pad adds some weight which is not compensated by the internal counter-weight.

No matter how it will be placed/centered, the sander can never be (as) balanced and (as) smooth as without it. If the counterbalance was bigger, it would in turn not be as smooth when without the pad.
