I'm going to install some drywall tomorrow and I thought that I saw that someone has used their festool sander. I can apply mud very good but there always is a little bit of sanding. My job is in a retail store filled with product and I want this dust free as possible.
I have the DTS 400, ETS 125
What are you recommending ?
Thoughts adsp please
Thx
Marc

Hooray for search. :P

Ok thanks guys, I would gate to wreck a nice new sander on a small paying job like this one. I have used my dewalt orbital sander before on mud ( because I didn't care) and it looked like a lot of dust went into the motor.
Not what I want happen to my festool sander.

I'll give it a shot and post my results when finished.

Thanks again for the links and comments!!

You should be alright with the Festool sanders.  Since the vac will be getting a great deal of the dust, not much should be leftover to try an infiltrate the motor.

Besides, they're tested very harshly (Arizonnnnna sand!).

I've done a couple of drywall projects by now with the DTS400, RTS400 and the RO150, and they all worked great. No risk of damage to the sander whatsoever. They get dirty of course, but only on the surface and dust stays out of the important parts. Dust collection with the DTS and RTS is great, hardly anything escapes. With the 150, not so. That left quite a mess.

I have used my ETS125 plenty of times connected to my MINI vac, it collects 99% of the dust and makes sanding down very quick.

I use the RO150 with a CT22 set to 1/2 power on sheet rock all the time. Never had any mess.

Hi Marc, my guys have used our two RTS 400's to sand hundreds of sheets of drywall and thousands of square feet of plaster repairs, with no ill effects to the machine other than wearing out one of the pads (which I ordered as a replacement item from Tom Bellemare).

DC is fantastic--the guys don't wear masks when using the sander because there is virtually no dust that escapes.

You could ask Tom or one of the other knowledgeable dealers about which abrasives are best to use for your application.

I would imagine you'd use the same abrasives that the "real" Festool drywall sander NAINA yet uses (PLANEX) -  Brilliant 2 (finish), Cristal (medium work) and Saphir (heavy work or wallpaper adhesive removal).  It's on the Festool German and U.K. sites under accessories for the Planex.
