Sandpaper Grit Question

Last week I finished a couple coffee table tops (oak) and revisited one of the tops today. I used my RO 150 with the typical 60 80 120 and 220 when working last week. The 220 finishing paper was Brilliant. I was very satisfied with the results but there was one pesky place that I worked on today with my new RO 90 (delta mode 1st @80) then worked my way up using the paper that came with the sander (Granat) in RO mode. There is clearly a difference evident in where I just finished and the rest of the table. The final paper grit was 220 both times. Should I expect the results to be the same between Granat 220 and Brilliant 220? Perhaps the difference was in the technique and the lighter weight RO 90?

Bruce, it's not likely the sanders, it's probably the abrasive. The Granat is more open, meaning there is more space between the abrasive particles than the Brilliant.  This make a coarser scratch pattern.

Thanks Brice....So, perhaps the "fix" is to go back over the area with the Brilliant #220 using the RO 150?

You'll want to go back at least one more grit than that, probably more.

Brice is right about the paper difference. During my recent work with my new RO90 I sanded a piece of Oak with the same grit Granat and Rubin. The difference in feel with the same grit was evident to the touch. From my experience, Granat definitely seems to be more of a 'take-down' paper.

Yes and a very good one too. I just wish it had a thicker backing.
