Sandpaper Won't Stay on Anymore

My ETS 150/3 is about six or seven years old. It's worked without flaw until a few weeks ago. I've noticed the sanding disks only stay attached when they are new and after about 10 minutes of sanding they won't stay on. It's as though the "middle" of the pad has lost adhesion.

The sanding pads aren't newly purchased and I've been using this batch for a few years. This problem didn't occur until recently. It's happening on all grits too so I don't the problem is with the disks. I haven't changed the settings on the sander since I got it so I can't imagine it's a setting thing. It happens with high and low settings on the CT dust extractor as well so I'm assuming the problem isn't there.

Is there some maintenance I can do to the pad or should I purchase a new pad? Or is there something I'm missing?

Thanks,
Shawn

....it would appear from your information that the pad is in need of being replaced as the abrasive will not be firmly attached unless there is something to 'stick' to.

You seem like you are 90% committed as the sander is not useful now.
If there was a shop near you then you could take your paper there and try your paper on a new pad. or try a sheet of new paper on your old pad.

It seems likely the pad is "beyond it", and they are considered consumable items.

i agree that it sounds like you need a new pad.

Is it possible that someone else used it and applied too much pressure?

My pads last for years, until someone else uses them...

Consider the pad a "consumable".  Buy a couple back ups.  ALWAYS affix a sheet of sandpaper to the pad before you put the sander away.  Otherwise, you may take it out of the box, start sanding, and realize, "whoops!".  And then you end up with the problem.
