I have been building saw horses for my whole career ( 11 years ) I always give guys shit when they show up with some plastic big box store horses. I started building horses this way about a year ago and they have been holding up very well.

sorry the pics are side ways

PHEW - that's a relief, I was just trying to figure our how to tell you you'd made all of your saw horses sideways ...

That used to be a test here years ago, when a new chippy started on a site they would get him to make a saw horse to see if he was any good.

So how do you make that angled notch in the top?

a dado blade on a table saw, I am going to make a jig and do it with a router next time

Seems to be that nowadays ( on big sites at least ) its some monstrosity that bears no resemblance to a proper sawhorse and gets binned at the end of the job

i use to build them like that but they get heavy I also would put a shelf on about half of them, the problem is shelfs and stacking becomes a problem. I also build them out of cedar generally. I try not to buy material I try to use scraps so sometimes they're not all cedar.

I dont have room to be carrying wooden saw horses about.
i can see that we have a dump truck, and three regular pick ups so it's not to much of a issue. however I started to make them stack so they have a small footprint. I can't dedicate a whole truck to saw horses.

So how do you make the dado slopped?  Sorry if it's a stupid question, but I'm just not seeing how one accomplishes that.  Please enlighten me!  :)

John

I'm going to confess to "fold ups" ... along with B&D workmates. Be cool if they were all the same height - but nope  [sad]
