Saw Stop 5 hp question

I know this is the Festool forum but I trust the wisdom of this group. I recently scored a great deal on a lightly used Saw Stop  Industrial cabinet Saw 5 hp single phase. I currently have the Saw Stop Job site saw so this is a big jump.

I need to add a 220 circuit in the shop. The manual says the machine uses 19.7 amps. Will a 20 amp breaker work or is that just too close. I am limited in this current shop until my new shop gets built so I am trying to fit this into the system.

Congrats on the saw. I have a 5hp powermatic at the shop. I’ll check it out tomorrow.
But I’m thinking that you will need a larger breaker.
Film at eleven or tomorrow

Usually 30A for 5 hp and 20A for 3 hp. My 3 hp is fine with a 20A circuit.  One of the reasons I didn’t go with the 5 hp Sawstop was because I didn’t have any 220V 30A circuits.

Ultimately I would check with my electrician but you are going to need a 30 amp circuit for the 5hp ICS. You need At least 20% more than stated amp draw.

This is the benchmark my electrician uses as well. Circuit is at least 20% greater than draw.
