Sawstop pricing questions

Hi All,

I've been on the fence (so to speak) for a while on a table saw. In Oz I do have Festool options (Precisio CS70, CS50 and CMS TS75 and TS55), but as I'm still organising space I've continued to ponder and collect smaller tools.

I recently noticed SawStop was available locally, so I thought I'd enquire about the price. It turns out that s modestly configured SawStop would cost around $6K ... the "full house" Precisio CS70 comes in a tad over $4K. I know they're very different offerings and the SatwStop offers the magical "sausage saver", but I'm surprised at the expense locally of the SawStop.

(I'm talking basic 36" SawStop cabinet saw with the heavy duty mobile base - 240V 3HP, no other extras)

I'd love to hear what US or other SawStop owners have paid for their machines ... when I compare SawStop to other locally available cabinet saws it's about three times the price. The only reason I was initially cruising through cabinet saws was because they are half the price of the Precisio [eek] I can get a Hammer / Felder combo machine for the price of a SawStop saw!

Thanks Peter, seems like the prices in the US are reasonable - locally it's new so I think it's currently a "sucker price" ... the sucker won't be me  [smile]

Precisio or CMS/TS looks even better the more I look at alternatives!

Did you check the international dealer page on the SawStop site? Maybe the local place has a sucker price as you put it.  Dunno, worth leafing through.

Yeh ... that was my enquiry path. Gabbett was my source of pricing  [sad]

Despite the exorbitant price, better pray that you never cut off a finger or more. Then that "sucker" price will seem like a true bargain.

Sawstop is very much like Festool in regards to pricing. There are no "discount" dealers, so if you have a dealer who is listing a price significantly above the standard SawStop price, I'd call Sawstop and let them know.  That being said, I can't figure out if you are looking at a Professional Cabinet Saw, or the Industrial Cabinet Saw. If it's the ICS, then the price you stated is in line with the USA. If it's the PCS...then it's very high, though I don't know what your current exchange rate, VAT, or other import taxes are.

That all being said, the Sawstop is an EXCELLENT saw no matter what version. I was an original tester for the prototype PCS, and they took all of the tester's recommendations to heart and made the appropriate changes prior to final release. The fit and finish is awesome, and the safety features (not JUST the brake system) are beyond reproach.

Should you decide on a SawStop, no matter the model, you will not regret the purchase, and resale values remain extremely high. I wouldn't own any other table saw, if for no other reason than that I am a professional pilot, and losing a finger would cost me a six-figure income. Even without the brake, I would have seriously considered the SS saws based on their performance, fit and finish. Couldn't be happier, and getting ready to sell my current saw to upgrade to a 5HP Industrial Cabinet Saw. ;D

OK... That's the Industrial Cabinet Saw.  Pretty high price in my opinion for the 3HP if exchange rate is near par.

Unless you absolutely need the Industrial, I'd take a look at the 3HP Professional Cabinet Saw (PCS). They also have a 1.5 HP model of the same saw.
U.S. Price for the 3HP is around $2800.

I would send Sawstop headquarters a note in the U.S. and ask if the pricing you are seeing is valid and acceptable. See what they say. My guess is that they would not be drop shipping from the U.S. to you, but would be sending their dealers machines straight from the factory in Taiwan.

Let us know how you fare!

Cheers
