For the first time ever, Sawstops cast iron table saws are on sale.

Are they clearing inventory for a new Festool-era line of saws?
What upgrades could they make?

I’d love to see something smaller but still with a cast iron top.
Also quieter motors and better dust control 🤞🏻

They're entering the EU too.  So probably a revamp to bring the production lines in check since they probably had to make some mods to get cert.

That's easy to do if one has the overarm dust collection blade guard come with the saw. Hook the overarm dust collection tube to a shop vac or dust extractor, and boom, it's 99% dust collection as claimed by SawStop (or more) for regular rip cuts.

Great, I have been looking forward to this product being available. Are there any promotions during this time?

I have the Industrial model with a vac attached to the overarm blade guard. Unless I am cutting very close to the edge of the workpiece, I don't have any dust escaping. The saw is extremely quiet. Its noise is covered up by the 2HP cyclones and my poor hearing.

I ripped an edge off from a board (veneered MDF) this morning, producing an off-cut strip about 2 to 3mm thick. The result was dust-free because I used a side board/strip (on the left) to trap the dust spill, making the cut like a regular rip cut rather than an edge cut:

Why?

The side board was clamped down to the saw table, which barely touched the blade and the stock wasn't pinched between the board and the fence. Ripping was done with the stock fed against the fence (not to mention the use of the stock guides).

The off-cut was a mm thin strip...if kickback was the concern.

Yeah, that wouldn't bother me at all. I regularly use a drop board like that, when cutting tapered legs. That way the sliver that comes off does not get trapped down the side of the throat plate.
I do the same when cutting off larger pieces, because of the leverage involved. As it gets close to cutting off, the part starts to bend. This can tear your veneer. With the landing board, nothing droops.

The possibility of a cutoff getting trapped and ejected is what is bothering me. I tend to be extremely cautious.

You're right about that, and I only use the dust-less ripping method when the off-cuts are expected to be dust or thin strips. If the off-cuts are pretty big, there's actually no need to add a side strip to trap spills as they aren't edge cuts.

Note that the side board could be positioned closer to the center of the blade, if so desired, to trap the dust.

P.S. I found out that after posting the pictures, I had forgotten to plug the D.C. to a power source (for under-the-table dust collection) when making the cut. So only the overarm dust collection (shop vac) was used. This shows how effective the method is. And MDF is among the worst dust to cover your shop.

My main SawStop collection is a 2np cyclone. The overarm vac turns on whenever the saw is running. I do get a little debris on edge cuts.

SawStop came out with a series 2 to the PCS and CNS. The premium fence got tweaked so it’s now standard on the Contractor model and the PCS. On the PCS the router table can get mounted on the right hand side of the saw. I’m not sure the mounting on the T-Glide fence? I thought the premium fence was an upgrade on both the CNS and PCS.

I’m guessing the current stock is still in the dealers inventory so they will probably give a nice Black Friday incentive if you take delivery of a series 1 saw. That’s the only difference so if you upgraded to. 32” with Tglide it wouldn’t matter.

I’m thinking that SawStop wanted a better fence for the EU market for the initial rollout. They don’t want a bunch of Germans, Dutch and English complaining  I’m guessing the Americans just live with the fact or spend an extra $250 to get the better TGlide.
