Just started festooling after a colleague told me about them.. I decided to trade in my remaining bitcoins for a domino/router and accessories, currently they're all in shipping from amazon to be delivered on Friday so hopefully a good weekend, knowing my luck the bits will turn up and not the tools, or vice a versa.

Northridge/Los Angeles area, originally from Scotland. Probably end up like my dad and loosing a finger.

I just started building wooden things a month or so ago, so far built two "work" tables, first one i used a hand saw, hand drill with an auger and an attempted mitre with a hand held jigsaw, and well it stands up but it ain't pretty, second one i actually managed to mitre, and the wife liked it enough to suggest i should keep it in the garage. Mostly still learning about the different woods to use and why everyone grins when i say i used redwood from lowes to build the first one.

Woodguy, Yes LA and Scotland are pretty much the same in weather, it's like i never left! ! I'm moved over for a movie/videos games company originally.

welp, my first bits just arrived, the mft/kapex table, it is missing some parts. from what i can tell at least. The instructions aren't that great, it lists a part in the image that doesn't exist in the design list, seems to be short the additional clamp for the stop ruler and deflectors, i think there are meant to be two, 1-9, 1-10 but 1-10 isn't in the list. and i have none. I'm bouncing around festool usa's phone system at the moment, hmm nope voicemail after a few pass arounds.

the long lr32 guide rail arrived too, the box was snapped in half but it seemed to have survived otherwise.

fingers crossed on the domino/of 1400!

man i was happily making domino cuts in plywood cut , about my 10th one ever, and it gets all noisy, broke the tip off the 5mm bit, Saturday night too. maybe plunging too fast, or off center. shame i was half way to my first frame.

must be life's way of saying, time to leave the garage into the world..

There are plenty of informative videos online showing proper techniques for using the different kinds of Festool tools.  For the domino, make sure that you put enough pressure on the front knob so the domino is held firmly against the workpiece.  To make the plunge cut, push from the rear of the tool keeping a slow and steady pace inline with the travel of the tool.  I did not read that you purchased a dust extractor, this is highly recommended for the domino.  The dust extractor is also an integral part of the entire Festool system and is a must have in my opinion.  I also encourage you to visit some of your local Festool distributors, places like Anderson Plywood in west Los Angeles have years of experience with the Festool brand.  I am local (live in simi), PM me if you need someone to help you sort things out.  Ultimately, you are going to spend more money on the green tools though.

hey jaymon,

i am using my larger shop vac for extraction, so that is working well so far.. I think i leaned it over a tad when doing  a vertical plunge and wasn't listening to what the motor was saying, having been a car engine dyno tuner for a long time, you think i'd have learnt that one.

i've been watching festool videos on youtube for the last couple of weeks or so. mrbigerock, eaglewoodworking, darlingtonfarm, tooltechnic, cpo outlets, toolsave, heiko rech, festoolusa to a name a few channels.

there is a dealer over by me and johincamper came over to say hi and fetch a power cable for me too from valley supply.

i may take you up on that offer too.

ahh ha! since i ordered the dominos in the systainer, extra 5mm bit, i thought they'd have left that one out since it comes with the domino..

Welcome,  If you didn't include the Dust Extractor in your "accessories" I would definitely recommend one like the CT26.

thanks, jack  i have a 14 gallon wet/dry that's 197cfm but i'll check out the CT26 as well

just grabbed some sheets of plywood from lowes and made my first domino thing .
