I would like to add a professional bandsaw to my arsenal. I’ve had my eye on the Laguna LT18HD, but I see my local dealer has the SCM S 440P 17” at over $1000 off right now making it slightly less than the Laguna.  Any thoughts?

Get the SCM, especially if it is made in Italy.

I have an Scm/minimax s500.  Maaaan.  It’s too much saw for what I do and I love it.  I love it so much.  Power for days. Great build quality.  I wouldn’t trade it in, but I haven’t yet used all the resale capacity.  You’re looking at the right size.

I’m not knocking Laguna, but if you can avoid made in China, do it.

Given the choice between the Laguna or the SCM, I would take the SCM without hesitation.  The Laguna is made in Taiwain, and there is no guarantee that you will be able to find repair or replacement parts five years from now.  The SCM is made in Italy, and you can still find parts for these machines 20 years later.

I have a Laguna LT18. It’s made in Italy by ACM.

Laguna appears to market several versions of its products to suit the wallet.  For example, the Laguna LT18-3000 is the half-brother of your saw and is made in China or Taiwan.

I would still pick the SCM over the ACM Laguna.
