Second hand Drill advice please

I'm thinking of purchasing a second hand drill set,
C15 Li Set with the angle and eccentric attachments, 2 batteries and charger
plus a Ti 15 impact drill, basic, no battery / attachments / charger
I don't think there is a systainer for the Ti15

He claims they are only 3 months old, but I suspect that is a proper lie, especially as the inpact drill appears to have been discontinued for over a year now.

Price is €400.  I have lowballed him as I think this is ok, but not great.

I am interested in this deal to get my hands on an impact drill.  I have read poor reports on this one though, which would be another reason why I think €400 may be to much.  I would like to however build my festool set   Also, I am only a very light user, so it might muddle me through a few DIY projects here and there??????? Shed building on the long term agenda...

I can't seem to figure out if Festool do another impact drill to replace it.  Or is the T15+3 an impact drill?

That price is a very good deal for all you say you get.

As you already suspect they're probably not 3 months old. You can see on the sticker of the tool when it's produced.

It is possible to get an insert for a Sys 3 that holds both the Ti15 and the C15. Or a spare sys 1 with insert for the Ti15 alone.

I never have a problem buying used Festool's, they're always in very good condition.

I cannot evaluate the fairness of the price, but I can say that I have a TI15 and it would be one of the last Festool drills that I would sell.

I use it strictly as an impact drill as I have other Festool drills that I think are better as standard drills. I think that the TI15 could serve as an all around drill if necessary.

My TI15 did come in a fitted Sustainer along with all the accessories. I am careful to use only impact rated drivers and sockets to avoid accidents.

I hope that Festool will develop an 18 volt impact drill and even sell it in the USA.

so Birdman, you think the T15 has been given unfair poor reviews?
Based on your feedback, it sounds like it will do the job for what I want.

PS. I have him down to €300

But I am a little concerned though as to how genuine this is.  Irish name, but judging by his use of the English language in emails and on the Ad, I feel it is a foreigner.  Not that bothers me, but why does he have an Irish name?
And the ad is now down from website I spotted it on.... don't know if he took it down or it was removed.
He also indicated in an email for me to use some website for payment...... that certainly won't be happening!!!

EDIT!!!! See the ad was actually removed by done deal as "it may not be genuine"

Even after an item is discontinued, it may take a while for dealers to clear their remaining stock, so the 3 month old claim is not absolutely impossible.  Not sure if they do this overseas, but FestoolUSA can check the original sale date of the tool based upon the serial number.  I did this when buying a second hand OF2200, and was able to confirm that the seller had purchased the tool when claimed.  Another reason to check before you buy is to establish precise info about remaining time on warranty.  This is actually a good excuse to give to the seller when you ask him for the serial number, not because you're suspicious, but because you want to confirm the warranty information.  The warranty is tied to the tool, not the user, and so Festool will honor it when you purchase a second hand tool.

That's a bummer. Always stay vigilant with these used adds, too many scammers. 400 would have abeen a great deal, on the cheap side but possible to get. 300 would have become suspiciously low and would make my spidey sense tingle.

I bought Bosch impact on here.
It has a phenolic stench, like it is burnt out.

As an impact drill, I like my TI15 very much. It has lots of power! Typical excellent Festool quality.

I built a bunch of Ipe benches using the TI15 to drive 1/4" by 2" lag bolts. I predrilled all the holes, but didn't get one in far enough. The TI15 snapped the lag bolt in half as soon as the bolt hit the bottom of the hole. The lag bolts were good quality.

I don't use the TI15 as pure drill often but it seems to do that job well.

I know the TI15 has gotten a lot of poor reviews. I like mine.

I thought the idea of an Impact Drill is so you don't have to predrill holes?
So if your drill snapped a good quality bolt in half as soon at it ran out of predrilled hole, that surely can't be a good recommendation for the drill???

It all depends upon the style of the end point of the fastener you're using. A typical US style lag bolt would need pilot holes drilled so that the lag bolt itself wouldn't either shear or split the wood.

A typical Euro style lag bolt has a thread form that cuts its own pilot hole.

Ipe is also called ironwood for good reason. The stuff is incredibly hard! I don't think any impact tool could drive a 1/4" lag bolt into Ipe without a predrilled hole .... certainly not without splitting the wood.

This particular hole where I twisted off the lag bolt was into end grain thus making it an even harder challenge.

I never had a issue with the TI15's power or controllability. It's a great tool.

I used a Domino 700 in the bench construction and had to be extra careful not to mortise too fast. Again, mortising into Ipe end grain was extremely difficult.
