Yes, another end-user training event!  Thank you for your interest.  Please let us know if you have any questions.

Course Description:
We are now calling for entries for a 2-day class focused on the practical application of the Festool Router System.  The class will take place at Festool's Training Center in Lebanon, IN (just NW of Indianapolis), and will be primarily geared towards professional applications.

In this class, we will cover the full Festool router lineup, including the MFK 700, OF 1010, OF 1400, and OF 2200, as well as key system accessories such as the MFS, LR32 Hole boring system, and FS Guide rails.  Participants should expect to walk away with a range of broadly applicable skills, with emphasis on panelized doors, circles and arcs, cabinet shelf pins and hinge boring, inlays, fluting, and edge-banding, among others.

Participants will leave with an improved understanding of advanced routing techniques as they apply to trim carpentry, cabinet work, and furniture construction.  Real-world, application-based exercises will enhance the participant's understanding of how to efficiently employ the Festool Router System in the shop and on the jobsite.

Since most of the two days will be spent in the shop actually using the tools, we request that registrants have some previous knowledge of the Festool Router System, and/or the basics of trim carpentry, cabinet or furniture construction.

Though we expect to add classes geared toward novices in the future, this should be considered an intermediate to expert-level class.

What will I learn?

Precision in shop and on jobsite with Festool Routers
  • MFK 700 Trim router - Precision and flexibility
  • OF 1010 Plunge Router - Small in size, big on performance
  • OF 1400 Plunge Router - Our most versatile router
  • OF 2200 Plunge Router - A portable shaper

Enhanced efficiency with Festool System Components
  • Arcs, circles and raised panels with the Festool MFS system
  • Efficient cabinet construction with the LR 32 Hole boring system
  • Boring of hinge plates and shelf pins on cabinet sides
  • 35 mm Hinge boring on cabinet doors
  • Routing fluted columns with the Festool parallel guide
  • Clean and efficient edge banding with the MFK 700 and OF1010 plate systems
  • Routing grooves and slots with the OF 2200 and Plexiglas template
  • Precision routing with FS guide rails
  • Precision inlays with Festool Routers

How do I apply and how are participants selected?
If you are interested in participating, please click here to complete this online survey no later than next Wednesday, November 25th, and provide a few details about yourself.  If you have applied for previous end-user training events, you will need to re-apply for this one.

We will notify selected participants (as well as a handful of alternates) by email once selections are made. The one thing we ask of our selected participants is that you arrive on time and stick around for the full two days.  Since we're not charging for the class, you will lose nothing if you no-show, but it will mean that someone else misses out on a great opportunity.

Travel and Accommodations:
Participants are responsible for all travel and accommodations.  We will be glad to help you make hotel reservations at our preferred local establishment (Fairfield Inn, 86th St, Indianapolis).  And for those participants staying at that hotel, Festool will arrive for pick-up on both days at 7:30am.

Festool will provide basic refreshments (bagels and coffee) in the morning at our Training Center, and lunch will be provided both days.  There will be an offsite group dinner on the first night.  Festool will cover dinner, but participants are responsible for any alcohol.

Sounds like a great class, holding it the week before Christmas may limit the responses you receive.

Yes, the timing is bad.  That's why I am not going to apply to attend.

Damn ! Out of luck again...... I would have gladly taken the time off - I just don't have enough frequent-flyer miles yet to commute form where I live.... [tongue]

Good luck you guys, I hope to at least get a lot of valuable feedback !

Regards,

Job

Every one of you needs to sign up for every single available class that Festool ever announces.....ever.

Just finished two days of training with Brian.  What a trip.  Super insightful, a lot of fun, laid back, while still being 150% professional, concise, thorough, etc. the whole damn time.

It's a blast, you'll learn more than you could ever imagine, pick up a ton of great tips and tricks and make some new friends.  Do it!

Some more tidbits of information from the August class.  When we were talking about potential classes in the future, this was another one discussed.  There is so much to learn about the routers that dealers have two different classes available.  The guys and gals at Festool talked about wanting to do a class to showcase the real capabilities of the tools and the accessories that make them really sing.  That is what this baby is all about.

Shawn Sean is right.  If you get the opportunity to go - GO.  It is not only about the tools and information.  It is also about the people, the attitude, and the entire atmosphere.  And then it is the trip home trying to remember everything you learned.  The payback will come later down the road when you attempt to do something that you haven't done before and then - BINGO - you remember something you saw.  The teaching methods are so natural the you don't even realize you are learning because of the light hearted manner in which is presented.

There are  a billion books out there about using a router and a router table.  But there is only one class out there on using the Festool router family.  And if the course description is accurate, all the work is done WITHOUT a router table.

And the course material is about teaching you about the use of the tools and the accessories.  It is not about trying to sell you tools, although when you leave you may have developed a list that Santa could fill if he hurried.

I would be begging for a chance to attend, but I can't.  The timing is wrong for me in many ways.

PLEASE, if you would have liked to have been considered, but didn't do the survey because the class timing was not good for you because of the holidays, please post something to that effect in this thread.  The last thing we need to have is Festool to get minimal response and attribute it to a lack of desire for the class.  We on this forum has asked for years for these opportunities - free or otherwise.  Speak up.

I am not a Festool employee.  I am just a lucky guy who got a chance and I want others to have the same or a better opportunity than I did.  If everyone who ever wanted an opportunity to go to one of these classes would post, this would be the longest thread in the history of this forum.

Peter

I'm going back to my cave now and sulk because I can't even ask to be considered.   [sad]

Larry,

Did you follow the link previously and complete your information?

Thank you Peter.  I was going to call you up and let ya know you spelled my name incorrectly [wink]

Pete put it best guys.  It's truly an unreal experience.  I'm not sure if I've ever had the pleasure to learn about such an exciting topic in such a well presented manner if that makes sense.  It is one of the most engaging learning experiences I've ever had and I don't mean that because it's hands on.  Actually, I don't mean it because it's hands on at all.  From the moment we said GO I was 120% immersed for two straight 8am - 5pm days.  Atmosphere, attitude, personalities, the subject manner, everything is pretty darn perfect.

Go, you'll have a blast and you'll learn things that will blow your mind about these tools.

Yes, but since I don't fit the "professional" profile, wanted to use some extraneous begging to gain an advantage.

You never can tell.  Begging can be effective at times.  Just wanted to make sure you also sent the stuff in.

Good Luck.

I commend Festool for offering these courses.  This one sounds like another winner.  Congratulations in advance to those who are selected to attend!!  As others have noted, time with Brian is certain to be fun-filled as well as filled with hard-core useful information.

So, Shane, has everyone been notified?  I take it that if I haven't heard from you, I'm not wanted?  :'(    :-*

I'm not the one who actually makes the selections.  Everyone, regardless of whether they are selected or not, will receive a notification.  I don't know what the current status is but I'll see if I can find out.  Thanks to everyone who submitted their info.  And, just a reminder that if you weren't selected, the plan is to continue to do more of these throughout 2010.

That's good to know.  Thanks.  A couple days ago someone was on tF shouting with glee that he'd been accepted.  I thought that must mean I wasn't since I hadn't heard.

I saw that post TF also Jeff.

Festool will not notify applicants that they will not be attending until they have conformation that those notified that they have been selected can attend.

F.Y.I.

Planning for the future, I started a thread where the attendees can share their knowledge from the class.  It is part of the deal isn't it?  Go to class - share the info?

Here's the place:  Tips from the Indy Advanced Router Class 12/09  I will bump the thread at the appropriate time.
