Seneca DF700 XL with Kreg clamp NOT WORKING ---- WHAT AM I MISSING HERE????

So, got my Seneca XL plate. Seems really nice, but with the Kreg clamp installed, I'm unable to clamp it down on even a 5/8" piece of wood. Lever is too high, too much force needed, no matter how I adjust it.

What am I missing here? This is the 3" clamp.

I just finished a project where I used mine a lot. I do find that it auto adjusts better if I open it all the way open before closing it. I assume you have adjusted the tension knob (shown in your picture) toward the "-".

yeah, tried that.

After watching some videos on it in use, I can see that mechanism that makes it auto adjust (into which is the adjustment screw) IS NOT moving at all.

I think this video is exactly the issue. Will wait to hear back from Woodcraft before I attempt to fix it myself. Seems like a QA problem at Kreg assembly plant.

I've heard back from Woodcraft, they are sending me a replacement clamp and a label to return the defective one.
