Shaper Origin Feedback ?

Yep, that project took some guts. I would be a mite puckered up given the current uncontrolled plunge issue. Total game-changer though in terms of what is possible in the field and small shops.

I plan an all-shaper weekend sometime soon once the weather clear up. I really need to follow the tutorials and get some practice.

Come to think of it, given a little prodding I could be convinced to throw some animal parts on the egg and open up the shop for an afternoon...  [poke]

I’ve been enjoying the Origin.  Just completed a few projects and learning the tool.

But THIS is one of the coolest examples of Shaper I have seen.

Had a chance to play with my Shaper for a while today.  Used Grid function to form 96mm by 96mm pattern to rout 20mm holes.  I did not make a work top, this was just proof of concept.  Hole pattern was perfect according to my Woodpeckers square and the holes were exactly 20mm and my various dogs fit perfectly.  I would not use it to layout an entire top, but it's a great way to start the x and y rows.

Another cool project from the shaper forum.

This was done by a guy who had never done woodworking before.

He had some design assistance but did the project herself.

I think he used Fusion 360 and their organic design capability called 'sculpt' and then a 'slicer' utility to create the grid.

Pretty amazing...

Well, with the recent announcement that the Shaper Origin will be available for sale again, I decided to stop by their website and take another look around.

Here are some of the recent user projects that have been uploaded that may have some wide interest for FOG members.

I have acquired a Shaper Origin ;-) I am wondering if it is OK to plug the Origin into my CT 22 for use with my boom arm? I assume since Festool makes the spindle it should be OK. Do any of you run your Origin off your Festool vac?

Thanks
Jack

I don't  power from the vac because I don't want/need  the vacuum running while it is powered up for non cutting tasks like scanning and test cutting.

You'll probably find for scanning it might not draw enough power to trigger the vac.  Turning on the motor though, that should trigger it.

The fact the person does not have woodworking experience is irrelevant as the machine is doing all of the work. It's a CNC machine and those don't require any skill to operate. The programming is the hard part and it is getting a lot easier as the software gets better and better.

That is correct. The vacuum will only turn on when the spindle is powered on, the Origin will be functional with the vacuum in Auto mode.
