Any other Shaper Origin Gen1 owners get the e-mail about the Gen1 to Gen2 trade in program?

I'd get the $900 bucks, i have all the parts and have taken great care of it. I got it during the Kickstarter, so I got it for a "song" compared to the price now.

First; Anyone out there have a Gen1 then got a Gen2? I'm wondering if it's worth it.

Second; looks like i get $900 bucks, then they resell it for $1899! Whoosh, reminds me of trading video games in when i was a kid.

So to upgrade would cost me $2000 bucks, and i'm thinking "eh" it might not be worth it, but would love someone's thoughts that has used both.

Thanks!

Ev

I have never even seen a Gen2 in person. I haven't had my Gen1 as long as you have, but it's been quite a while. Because of all of the updates, I feel like I have grown with it, so it would take something pretty significant to get me to change. The changes to the Gen2 look like they would be nice. I would definitely go that way, if mine was out of commission for some reason, otherwise I'm good. I don't see that price as enticing enough.

Ya, I received a bump-up notice this morning. I didn't even know that they released a Gen 2 version.  [eek]

There seem to be some significant improvements with Gen 2 but it's hard to take the leap if you don't use it often. After reading about the improvements, if I were a first time purchaser I'd definitely gravitate towards the Gen 2 version.

Unfortunately, I have a Gen 1 and it's NEVER been used, the only thing I did was to turn it on to download the software updates. So the upgrade option through Shaper Origin is a non-starter for me. If I were to send it to Shaper for the upgrade, they would literally open the Systainer, look at the contents and then attach a shipping label and realize a $1000 profit for 5 minutes of work.

I really want to learn how to use the Shaper...I just need to make some time for it but the current garage project skewed the time-line further in the future.  [sad]

I bought into Shaper on the second kickstarter round.  Think I paid $1600ish.  While, unlike Cheese, I have used mine a few times. Acrylic and wood diameters are sooo easy with the shaper.  I also used mine to setup grid patterns a couple times.  I've bought all the accessories excepting the subscription.  I do need to upgrade the operating system but the vast number of "Squirrel!!" interruptions as kept me from utilizing as much as I would like.

I think i got mine for that same price with kickstarter.

My relationship is funny with it. When i need it, i'll use it a WHOLE bunch, then i will go long stretches without using it

But Cheese, that thing is so easy; you'll get it down solid in like an afternoon. Even when i go back to it Months later, its like riding a bike; NOT like the Leigh dovetail jig where i have to read through the book everytime, LOL

I have used mine a fair amount.  It has allowed me to do somethings (especially w/ curves) that would be much harder to do otherwise.  I am happy with it.

I looked at the trade in and don't find it that compelling.  It would still cost me about $2K to upgrade.  I don't see the new features worth $2K to me.

Thats what i'm thinking; $2k for slight improvements is a little steep. I'll wait it out for Gen3

I was a little slow with it at first. I could do simple "on tool" things, but that was about it. I dabbled with Inkscape for a while, but the computer I use is not in the same place as my Origin. That held me back a while. Studio was a game-changer for me. I got a lot better way faster. Then Auto-pass made it even better. Actual user-experience wise, that is a big deal.
