Hi-

Can you give me some suggestions on the which gloss to pick for kitchen cabinet,
low gloss or mid gloss? There are picutres to attached with this post and which gloss would be the closest? Will higher gloss be easier to show the grime  and marks?

Thanks for your inputs.

At some point Tom, the resident KA+ expert, will chip in but until that happens...I've mixed the low and mid gloss 1/1 to get the sheen I want.  I used to be able to order it with a specific sheen but I can no longer do that and am restricted to the low, mid, and high gloss options.  The mid was too shiny so I've resorted to mixing the low and mid and that gets me close to a satin sheen.

I use low, mid gloss or have the sheen blended to a sheen number. Last job I ordered a gallon of low gloss in 2 different colors because that's what the customer wanted, so they thought, ended up getting another gallon of each color sheen matched.

I was told never go below a 20 sheen. It will show finger prints because the oil in your skin leaves a 20 sheen on a surface. Not sure it's true, but I trust the guy who told me this when it comes to finishes.

I get my product right from a SW main branch so they will mix anything you want. Typical sheen is 40/satin but they will match whatever sample you bring them. Don't think you can go wrong in 40 to 50 range like Tom shows. I recently had to do a project with High Gloss which was 90 sheen, now there was a pile of fun.

It looks like satin or SW mid gloss.

It will show finger marks grime not so much, but as John states above it is much more technically challenging to get a high gloss 90 sheen to look consistent than a satin. I always charge more for high gloss projects as it takes longer and usually involves buffing. I do like the look of high gloss finishes but it can get tiring if there is too much of it.

Thanks all experts! It helps a lot. I am going to try mix low gloss with mid gloss and get a stain look. I figured that the mix  will get me an average sheen between 35-40  [big grin]
