Shop air compressors, which is quietest brand and how large of a tank?

I am running a 2 stage Wayne pump with a 60 gallon vertical tank. Compressor is from the late 60's, made about 20 miles from home and pumps up to 175 pounds. Has a nice chug a lug sound to it. Tank is an ASME certified tank and I had it scoped when I bought it (paid 150 bucks for it).

Am I correct that Wayne no longer exists as a company?

They have been bought several times over the years and I believe they still exist under the name Wayne-Vaughn here in fort Wayne.

Not sure what they offer anymore, but parts are still available.

Appears from their website they only distribute other makers. But there I discovered another brand I hadn't heard of before Saylor-Beall. http://www.saylor-beall.com/

Can't beat the price, but can you run in your living room and still hear the TV?  [big grin]

Darcy didn't mention that he only talks between the chug a lugs.  :)

Hello John, It's probably been a couple of years since we talked -- what is the status of your shop(s) by now?  Do you have all of your machines fired and in production?  Any exciting new ones?  Pictures?

Hi Ron, yes it has been a while.

Sadly, not too much to report. I'm running way behind on my plans to build my dream shop, life seems to keep getting in the way. I was sure this would be my year and it's already half gone. You'll find out about this when you get older, but the longer you live the faster time passes.  [smile]

Not too exciting, but my latest acquisition was a drill press.

I just replaced my 1970's Craftsman drill press (many features I didn't like) with the new Powermatic model which has many great features.

No one here, even John, would like to pick up the tab on this one. It's a 400hp fully enclosed variable speed Ingersoll.  ;D

Greg, forget about affording one of those, I'd just like to see a photo.  [smile]
. Finally, an air compressor that's large enough to run ALL the air tools I own, at the same time... [wink]

Ron, congrats, the PM2800 is a very nice machine, I went through a demo of it. If they made it in a 20" that would have been my choice. I wound up with a 20" Jet.

I don't believe Wayne even made all the pumps back then. Wayne sold a line of equipment for the service station industry.

You can still find a bunch of the Wayne stuff in use at the older family run small service stations and auto repair shops in my area.

To me, that makes owning and maintaining my old Wayne feel like a good service to the history of my area.

Talk about noise!  [smile]
Still, how cool would THAT look in one's shop... [embarassed]
