I'm making a bench with a 3/4 ply top with 3/4" holes spaced 4" apart. I want to do my sanding, Domino work etc. on this bench top and would like to know what you guys use to hold the items to the bench? I know I can just use clamps but I want to hold it from the side without being higher than the piece itself. Festool has some clamps to do this that are just too expensive for me. Anyone made any homemade clamps for this application? I was thinking of maybe circular cam type wood clamping with a 3/4" shaft off centered. Or two angled wedges pushed toward each other.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Rob

Angled wedges work well, but are fussy due to needing a selection of widths to accommodate the varying sizes of your work pieces.

Veritas also makes a line of adjustable dogs/clamps that work in 3/4 holes.

those festool clamps are pretty slick. i'd just buy them now and go from there. of course i got mine in a used package of festool so i didn't have to directly shell out the dough.
