The Festool Owners Group is a premier destination on the web for people who are seeking information about Festool products.  One of the best sources of information is the use of images to explain procedures.  Based on the successes of our review-based contests, we're doing something similar! Members can submit a video or a photo thread showing a use of a Festool or Festools.  This is not a tool review;  it is about showing others how you use a tool in your projects or techniques that you learned here and after trying them yourself you want to share for a chance to win.  I would say that the majority of forum members have, at some time, benefited from the sharing of knowledge here on the forum.  This is your opportunity to share with others and have the potential of being rewarded for your endeavors.

This Contest shall start October 30, 2012

Contest Rules

  • The actual entries must be your own original material but may illustrate techniques shared here on the forum or elsewhere.
  • Members may submit one (1) entry showing the usage of one or more Festools.
  • Videos and images must show tools being used in a safe manner using best practices.
  • Existing material (videos or pictorial posts) is not eligible for this contest.  Content must be new.
  • Entries must consist of at least ten (10) images of the Festool product(s) in use and a minimum of 200 written words or a video lasting between two (2) and ten (10) minutes in length.
  • Video entries should be uploaded to YouTube and then posted in the Contest Entries Board with the word "Demonstration" included in the title.
  • Pictorial entries with accompanying text should be posted in the Contest Entries Board with the word "Demonstration" included in the title.
  • Members posting entries should be prepared to answer questions regarding their entries.
  • Contest entries must be posted prior to December 7, 2012.
  • Each Forum Member shall have two (2) votes in a poll posted from December 8, 2012 thru December 15, 2012 to narrow the entries submitted in the Major Contest down to five (5).
  • Three (3) “Judges” (who shall remain anonymous for the duration of the contest(s)) shall be selected by the Moderators from Members who have posted demonstrations or reviews in the past two (2) years and the Judges shall select the winners of the Major Contest to award the First thru Fifth Prizes.
  • All entries that comply with the rules of the contest shall also be entered into a Random Drawing for a prize.
  • The contest is open to members of the forum in the United States and Canada, excluding Quebec, who are at least 18 years of age, except where prohibited by law.  Festool employees, dealers and affiliates, and FOG moderators are not eligible to win (but may choose to participate).  Members who have received compensation for the preparation of reviews or demonstrations within the last two years may participate but may not win a prize in the Major Contest but may be eligible to win a prize in the Random Drawing.
  • Festool reserves the right to use the content from any entries in the SysNotes email newsletter or other marketing materials.

Prizes

Major Contest Prizes

    Grand Prize:     400 Festool Dollars

    Runner Up:      200 Festool Dollars

    Third Place:      100 Festool Dollars
Fourth Place:   One Pair of Quick Clamps
Fifth Place:      One Pair of Screw Clamps

Random Contest Prize:  One SysLite

What are Festool Dollars?  Rather than deciding for you what tool you could win, Festool Dollars are a credit that you will have with Festool USA that you can redeem for tools, accessories or consumables directly from them.  You may spend your dollars as you wish in one transaction up to the total amount of the prize. You may augment the amount won with up to an equal amount of your own funds.  For example, if you win the Grand Prize of 400 Festool Dollars you may add $400 of your funds towards the prize.  You may not go over the amount, and Any amount left over will be forfeited.  You will find the values of the items you wish on the Festool USA website or in the published current price list.  Festool Dollars will have a value for 90 days from the awarding of them.

Feel free to post any questions you might have.  Best of luck to everyone!

Peter, Seth, Shane

Very cool!!  I am going to look forward to seeing results from this one.  [thumbs up]

Scot,

Seth and I were given the opportunity to do a contest.  Although we couldn't include everyone in the prize winning aspect, we wanted a way for all members to be a part.

Speaking personally I hope that members will embrace this contest.

I love it!  I wish I had waited to post my Hall Table build...now I need to think of something new as I intend to enter  [scratch chin].  I also am very much looking forward to all of the talented folks on this group share their tips and techniques.  Such a wealth of information.  I used to look at several different groups, but since landing on the FOG I spend 95% of my online forum time here.  Thanks Peter and Seth for coming up with this...it should be good!

Scot

As Seth said, the prizes are like part of the fun or participating in the contest because it is like if you buy a lottery ticket and start thinking about "what if?"  You grab a Festool catalog and start looking.  Part of the fun.

Sounds like a good contest!  [thumbs up]  I hope that I have time to fit in a new woodworking project so that I can submit an entry.  [scratch chin]  With everything else on my plate right now, it is not a certainty.

Are you still planning to do the calendar?

Frank,

The Fog Calendar is totally separate.  We just wanted to get this going first.

Good!  I do have some photos to submit for a calendar -even though I may not have something to submit for this contest.

Holy stipulations.

That is like a list of requirements for a college level writing class.

All that will take too much valuable time.

Just for simple reasons to encourage us all, are the ever so remarkable and talented Paul Marcel and Honeydokreg and other notables are ones that we are not pitted against by chance that fall into the category excluding them?  I guess I'm just wondering if we're up against the cream of the crop.

This question is not meant to offend anyone, and if it is something that cannot be discussed and is to be left to behind the scenes determinations as to eligibility, please disregard and/or delete this post. [embarassed]

Kevin,

Your understanding is correct.  In an effort to encourage participation, we came up with that phrase.  Anyone may participate, but as the rules say, some will only be eligible for entry into the random drawing.

Hah,  [smile]  The requirements were originally higher.  We lowered them a bit to encourage participation but kept some minimiums to help ensure quality content.  And actually two minutes of video isn't that long, and 200 words is much less than you might think.... try counting a paragraph.

Lots of prizes in this one + the random draw , so lots of chances to win!!

Seth

200 words is nothing. in colage we had to write 100 words about an inanimate object (randomly picked out of a hat). trying to keep under it and say everything was very hard

i find the festool dollars part about not going over the amount and loosing the rest a bit odd . it might be the way its phrased.
could you spend all the winnings and some of your own on top to buy a tool etc or can it only be on the winnings

Alan,

I admit that I drafted that part the way that I did because I know that Festool does not "sell" directly and I didn't know if there would be implications if someone wanted to spend extra.  I will ask Shane to look into that.

I do want to point that that although members outside North America can't be eligible to win, participation is encouraged, AND ALL members are encouraged to voice their opinions and vote for those who will make it to the top 5.  I am allowed to say that Festool everywhere does pay attention to the videos and interesting things can happen.   [big grin]

"Members who have received compensation for the preparation of reviews or demonstrations within the last two years may participate but may not win a prize in the Major Contest but may be eligible to win a prize in the Random Drawing.

Actually I have another question in regards to this that needs clarification.  I won a Festool Stein via entering a similar contest like this one on this forum which was giving a review of my MFK700 in a submitted post.  Would that preclude me from winning a prize here if it was in the last two years other than the Random Prize?

You are eligible.  [big grin] [big grin] Start making plans and charge your batteries.

Being awarded a prize is not was meant by being compensated.

You can shoot photos and document with text.  You don't have to appear in the images.  You don't have to be in a movie.

We were trying to get as many members as possible to just show us how they use their tools in real life and take into consideration that some would be camera shy or might not have a video camera.  Hey, if you look at any of my videos you will see arms or a bald head, you won't see a face.  I have so much adrenaline when I talk abut Festool stuff that my mind and mouth can't sync and I stutter and say the word "and" in a subconscious time out so that I can re-sync.  All I hope is that at the end of the day viewers can get something substantive out of my stuff and pass by the bald head and the stuttering.  If not, then the information is out there for others to see.

Relax,  you will do well!

Please keep the questions coming, but have fun with this!  It isn't work, it is what you love to do.  Just show us how you do it!

And keep smiling.

If that's the case, I am in! I'll break out the DSLR that I have and try to take some nice quality photos :)
