While IKEA just opened in the neighborhood, we didn't want or like any of the beds they offered. So when our kids moved into their rooms in our new house, we decided to build beds from scratch. My wife is the designer, i'm mr jigsaw-dominio-glue-and-rotex =)  Nothing fancy here, just plain old 22mm MDF and lots of dominos.  Very simple, but extremely sturdy.

I made two beds. 200x90 cm. The first one entirely with dominos, but I got lazy on the second one, and cheated with a few screws too.

I'm having major problems uploading pictures :-/

A quick drawing before we start:

The MFT was great for holding pieces. Really pleased with it.

Talking about pleased with - aaaw, the domino madness :)

The two-year old loved it, and started attacking his new bed immediately =)

Bed #2. The four year old was allowed so choose colors himself, hence the red+green combo :)

Nice work!  You've got a good designer on staff.

How did you apply the finish, it looks fantastic

Great design, with built-in lashing points for when the wee terrorists get too rambunctious!!!

Great job!

I'm also interested in how the finished was applied and how you sealed the cut edges.

Thanks :)  The designer is ace for sure :-)

Finishing: I sanded everything with the RO125 before painting. First with Brilliant2 P80 to round the edges (I could have done it with the router, but the rotex worked nicely). Sealing the edges was pretty much done with the rotex. The edges where quite smooth after I was done sanding with Brilliant P80 and Titan2 P360.

A layer of paint was applied.  The paint was Jotun Bengalack 90 (a norwegian brand). The 90-part refers to how much the paint shines - I have no idea if that's some kind of international standard for that - probably not. It's considered a shiny paint.

After painting it was sanded (well, more like polished) with Titan2 P800. Then a second layer of paint was applied, and I didn't really see the need to sand/polish anymore. (I was in a hurry to get the kids out of our own bedroom ;-)).
