Simple, dedicated dust solution for DEWALT planer?

Prob not the solution you want but I found it's the only thing that will clear the table of any debris.  Yes, the "fan" on the dewalt throws a good majority of the dust out the back end but my shop vac couldn't clear the bed.  The 2hp DC does.

Oneida does make a line of Super Dust Deputy models that can handle from 350 to (I think) 850 CFM or so, and Oneida seems to think that this size of Deputy would be best for the planer.  But I also seem to recall several photos & videos of guys who have the 735 planer and who've only used one of the "normal", smaller Dust Deputy mentioned above.

On your super deputy setup.  It appears to be a double layer of 3/4 ply that the deputy is mounted on.  What size can do you have underneath?  Is the ply attached to the can with clamps/straps or just gravity and vacuum?

I am in the process of making a "Frankenstein" of my own, albeit wall mounted.  I have everything figured out with the exception of the collection drum and its connections.

  The sky is the limit in regards to what drum to use.  I have low ceilings so i was forced to use a small container.  For the lid i routed a ring and installed gasket material.  I used a steel drum because the dust collector suction crushed the rough neck trash can i originally had.  HEPA pleated filter came from Wynn Environmental out of PA.

Thanks.  I have similar components (filter, etc...).  I was warned to steer clear of plastic garbage cans.  I am leaning towards a 55 gallon steel drum at this point.

re: 55 gal drum for chip and dust collection:
I had such a set up under a 3 hp centrifugal DELTA dust collector with a cloth filter bag. Awesome suction but  a bear to empty the drum.  It was also a bear to lift and handle the blower and 3 hp motor attached on top so I could even get at the drum.

If I had to do it over again I would figure out how to insert a contractor trash bag strapped over a support frame to reside inside the steel drum. In that case you would simply lift the trash bag and dust/chips - manageable weight and the dust is already bagged for disposal -no problems.
