Site Work Essentials SYS-5

Tradesman's cleaning set  D 36 HW-RS-Plus  CODE: 497700

SYS-5 with 36mm x 3.5m anti static hose, stainless steel tubes and decent vac tools and brushes. All at back of table in photo. (hose sleeve is an addition)

At front of table in photo; 6x6 drop cloth, work apron, 27mm x 400mm hose, 500mm power extension with 2 outlets, drill shroud for walls, drill shroud for wood, mains tester and CT wings.

The drop cloth is a shower curtain that collects the bits the extractor doesn't.
The work apron means I can always find my folding rule or tape but especially pencils - one for writing and another for marking. Having 2 pencils keeps the marking one sharp for much longer.
27mm x 400mm hose is a reducer from the 36mm hose so any Festool power tool can be used.
500mm power extension is much easier to plug in to than the CT-Midi socket, plus this extension has dual outlets.
2 drill shrouds, 1 for walls and 1 for wood. No more horrible brick dust on the skirting boards. No more drill swirls of wood or worse still Titebond 2 on the carpet of the client who is paying you for this.
Plug in mains tester to check power supply for good earth. Important with a CT and static issues.
CT wings. Looked brilliant in the YT video but I've not used it for anything yet...

A 36mm hose is about £105. For £165 the Tradesman's cleaning set is much better value for money, plus it makes a CT a brilliant vacuum cleaner for just another £60. Portability, organisation, precision tools etc. are all fantastic, but properly cleaning up after your work is done is another massive plus in the client's home.

I got one of the drill shroud things a while ago as the local Festool dealer was selling off all their stock.
Thinking I'd give it a try but it might not be that great I bought it.

Hell yes, decent bit of kit. Was putting patresses (5"x1" dressed with a chamfered edge) on a dot and dabbed staircase wall for handrails. The painters were glossing the spindles three feet away and initially weren't keen on me drilling anywhere near them.

Pottered away and as soon as I started drilling and they realised how clean it was they chilled right out. No more problems.

I like that sys-5 setup. I often times find myself needing the clean up set - and without it there's a lot of vacuuming on my knees with just the mouthpiece...
I was wondering if anyone has a broom that folds into systainer sized pieces...

Use tent poles.  The kind with the elastic inside.  Mount it to a small wisk and away you go.  Make sure that the tension is tight enough to keep it from coming apart when you DON'T need it to!

cheers.  Bryan.

By broom I'm assuming for use on hard floors - brooms throw up tons of dust - buy this kit and do the floor with it. I also use this in my workshop which has a concrete floor and it does a great job cleaning up everything. My CT has a Dust Deputy cyclone so I don't care about the Festool-over-six-quid-a-bag price, as the disposable bin bags I use are probably not even 6 pence each, so everything from wood chippings and wood dust to cobwebs and dead insects are all neatly bagged up ready for disposal.

The Festool cleaning set in a SYS-1 is a piece of Seriously Horrible Inferior Trash*, I am very surprised it is a Festool branded product, whereas the set in a SYS-5 is of their usual premium quality.

A 36mm x 3.5m AS hose is horrifyingly expensive, so better spend another £60 and get a whole lot more. It's a brilliant bit of kit for the CT extractors which come supplied only with 27mm hose, so I'd imagine many Festool users will want a 36mm hose as well. I think this is a far better way of buying one. Clean up everything, all sorts of *.

Love your "kit".  I purchased the Tradesman's cleaning set the same day I ordered my CT26.  Your post made me realize I still have a few things to purchase!

I use my CT26  in a shop environment only, in a basement with concrete floors, and plenty of natural dust (which includes bugs).  Yesterday I ordered the Festool 496169 Wet Filter, so I could also wash the shop floor.

Gotta love Festool!

The hose sleeve I ordered easily goes over a 27mm and is snug on a 36. If you wanted to a Plug-it cable could be included with the 27mm hose inside the sleeve. For about £40 including P&P I covered two 36mm hoses and one 27mm. £13 per hose. Bargain, because the Festool equivalent is very silly money and I really can't imagine it would be any better than this. It's not as pretty and there's (green) electrical PVC tape at each end but it is far cheaper per hose - and it will fit a 36.

I highly recommend this product (or something very similar) - if you're using the Festool hose(s) as standard as this will transform your working. Hoses become far less annoying. £13 per hose. It is brilliant. Everyone with a Festool CT should invest in some of this.
Thank you [member=6802]Roseland[/member]. It was a Roseland post where I first found out about this magical stuff.

[member=51145]demographic[/member] - the Festool CT drill shroud works really well on walls as most of the dust is extracted when I PDC into brick walls. It also easily supports the extra weight of the 36mm hose with 27mm hose reducer and still clings to the wall. Brick dust is pure filth and horrible and awkward to remove, so this is great for fine dust like brick dust but only up to maybe 10mm diameter drill bits I think. I have a second drill shroud I use for drilling wood that will easily extract any size waste that drilling wood will produce. This makes every power tool I use have dust collection.
