Slippery MFS

Hi together,

one the one hand it's surely great that the router slides easily on the MFS, but on the other hand the fact that the whole MFS slides equally easily on the workpiece often drives me nuts.  You spend a lot of time positioning the template precisely and once you tighten the clamps all the precision is gone.  [mad]

I am still looking for a convincing solution.  Currently I put some crepe tape on the bottom of the MFS but I'm still not really happy with it.

How do you guys handle this?

Well I just slightly tighten the clamps very slightly and then I can tab the MFS where I want it to be and then tighten the clamps up.

I admit that I don't have the MFS, but I have had great success keeping other things from sliding by applying some of the foam tape that is used on the underside of the rails.  I have bought a couple of extra rolls and love it!

I sometimes use another type of temporary clamp applied over the workpiece to hold the MFS in place while reaching under for the final lock-down.  The Bessey quicklamp works great, and even the cheap "beak action" type spring clamps.

The foam tape is definitely better than my crepe!  But permanently glueing something on the MFS somewhat limits its possibilities (circles, arcs, ...).

What I'm definitely going to try is the temporary clamp!  As simple as it sounds - I didn't think of that.

Thanks so far!
