Here are two boxes I just completed, My buddy wanted a couple of small boxes for his two girls 8 and 10. He wanted there initials on them and I had not done that before. I didn't what it to look painted so approached it a little differently, the raw wood is showing for the letters. He wanted one pink and one purple. There boxes are 5x7" outside and made out of Curly Maple. I used Keda Dyes for the colors. Finished with 5 coats of Lacquer. Finished the inside with Suede Tex in black Black. Almost had a heart attack when I applied the black adhesive for the suede Tex, it leaked through the bottom a little and I didn't catch it. hours later I went to the shop to check on things and noticed a black goo coming from under the finished boxes. Luckily they had many coats of Lacquer so I just wiped it off. Whew. Enjoy the photos.

Very nice!

How did you mask off for the initials?

I found some reusable adhesive backed stencils, placed stencils, painted them with liquid frog tape. Removed stencils, dyed Maple. Sanded off liquid frog tape (not easy). Liquid frog tape could be free handed for the letters but I don't have a steady hand. Hope this helps
