Snow storm suggestions for Uncle Bob and others in the NE

Hmm, scotch... what a wonderful idea. Here, north of Boston, snow is coming down. Not as much (yet) as I had expected by now, but its drifting quite a bit. Guess we'll see in the morning.

Best one (smooth) I've tried so far is a Aberfeldy 21. I'm open to hear suggestions on what to try next. Let me add that I'm not too fond of the smoki'es. I have in the past tried Dahlwinnie, Glenmorangie, Glenlivet, Bowmore.

The two I listed are sherry barrel aged. Try them when you get a chance.

11:15 and it is just turning to sleet from rain. Left the shop after 3 hours of listening to audio-books (Travis McGee anyone?), a cigar, multiple cervasas and bit of Blantons.

panelchat - the cervasas were Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale, I darned near missed it this season but stumbled upon 1.5 cases a few weeks ago, the last our local provider could get.

The Balvenie Portwood is impossible to find these days. It was my go-to single malt 5-7 years ago and then it disappeared from the shelves. One day I was browsing a store and looked into the locked area (i.e. top shelf) and there it was - outside my price-range!

The Glenfarclas 21 is my most-recent favorite single malt scotch. I stumbled upon it a few years ago and then could not locate any for a while. Last year I was outside Pittsburgh on business and found it in the Sewickley state store and bought them out, hence the 6 bottles on hand.

I have the idea that I should "invest" in single-malt for my retirement program. The way prices have increased the ROI should be better than I have seen on stocks/bonds. And, if all else fails, I can drink it...

Anyway, tonight is a good night in the northeast to cradle a tumbler of spirits in front of the fire - I hope you are all doing the same.

Only about 4" where I am so far. Syracuse is a bit NW of me at about 6" . It is pretty variable in depth throughout the central NY area.  Nothing out of the ordinary. Certainly not enough to slow down normal life.  Looks like down state , LI, and all you guys closer to the sea board are getting it.

Still dumping in Brooklyn, but just a solid snowstorm, not too big. People are out and about having fun.
Somehow- after all the above wisdom, I ended up having a couple Budweisers (???)
If only it would hit us with a few feet here, then I could make some serious sawdust this weekend, uninterrupted...

Hey guys

Before emptying those bottles from Scotland  [drooling] here is another suggestion:
Take some snow pictures and post them here on the FOG so we all can see how bad it is!  [jawdrop]

Have a nice weekend.
Kind regards
Henrik

Well, it's early, the snow has stopped and its nice and quite. The sound of snowblowers - mine included hasn't commenced yet. The snow is still white. To me, nothing beats that first good cup of coffee. I know others may be imbibing......... stronger, more aged drinks, but for me, nothing beats that first good cup of coffee.
In a bit it's going to be hitting that snowblower and trying out some snow shoes in the park - not exactly a trip to Hawaii, but what the heck.

Regarding the whiskey - single malt or blended, I  have just never, ever acquired a taste for that. Even in the 80's when I owned a hero/sandwich shop and the salespeople would give me scotch - either Chivas Regal or JW Black, I literally never touched a drop and remained in my "liquor cabinet"  for over 15 years. Recently, my brother in law had me sample 2 single malt scotch's. Well, that was my first and last time.  It simply isn't for me. Sooooo, I'll stick to my red wine with dinner and continue my search for that really good bottle of $15.00 and great bottle of $25.00 red wine!

For dessert try Bartenura Moscato.  To me it falls into that really good but cheap category.  It also has a nice effervescence to it.

Right after that  last post the power went out for about 3 seconds, then on, off on off on off.......... probably twenty times in  an hour and half.  [sad]

So I settled in  with the new catalog, some bourbon, and the Syslite  [smile]

So Bob, is this your first use of snow shoes?   I've done quite a bit of it ever since  was a kid.

Yep, Seth. Bought from LL Bean a few weeks ago. So a total newbie. My wife said that the snow maybe to high  and unpacked yet - or else we would just sink down in the snow. Makes sense?

Well it depends on the type of snow to some degree and the size of the shoes. Wet stuff supports quite a bit because it is so dense to start with. Fluffy stuff , even with large shoes,  will let you sink in. Thing is even if you sink in the shoes make walking possible because they create space around your foot and leg, so you are not post holing like you would be without them.

What brand , and size do you have?  Did you get some poles too?

They are MSR 22" shoes. I have Teekie(?) hiking poles.
