SOCCER BALL DISPLAY CABINET ( Rendered sample with " festool " ball )

That is so awesome. I would buy one of those. Great render, I like the texture of Festool in the green.

Wayne,

That's awsome. This rendering looks very realistic. The seams in the ball stand out just enough, and the wood looks like real wood - at least to me it does.
The "FESTOOL" bump mapping is not my cup of tea, but it adds to the percieved depth in the lower shadowy areas.
Nice work!  [not worthy]

Regards,

Job

Wayne,

Gorgeous work! I am being redundant but I feel like I would be remiss if I did not say something.  Such artistry cannot pass without some commentary.  I also appreciate your narrative on the progression of your design.

By the way, where did you get a Chrysler Corp. soccer ball?

Thanks neill, always nice to have feedback..............i might be stupid but what is a chrysler corp. soccer ball??

Wayne,

I think that the reference to Chrysler - the automobile manufacturer - was due to the pentagon panels.  Their logo is a pentagon.

Peter,

Thanks for that explanation.  Wayne, sorry for the confusion.  I just assumed that Chrysler was a worldwide company.  My fault for ass-uming.

Hiya

Anybody going to the Soccer World Cup?

Cheers!

My brother is trying to get tickets but it looks like it might be a bit to late, I at least have 6 of the official balls to make up for it  [big grin]

My sister got given tickets so she is going. I got some of those "SA flag side mirror covers" for my car.

LOL i have some of those sa flag mirror covers but i just cant see myself putting them on. I even saw a whole lounge suite made to look like the SA flag in full leather......and it wasnt even a throw over, once you buy thats it you have the ugliest couches on the planet.

What? Who would buy that? Yeah I realised that the mirror covers were ugly as well so I gave them to my mom and bought a small flag to put on my aerial. Looks much better ;)

Oh well i thought it would be to good to be true to make something i would really enjoy doing. Today i went to get the perspex tubing for the showcases. One big problem though..........they want to charge me close to $700.00 US for one meter of 300mm diameter tubing. WTH!!!!! So im going to just have to stick with square units for now. When i get a design together i'll post some renderings.

no chance of using glass? cut down a vase or similar straight sided vessel

Wayne,

If Perspex is cast acrylic tube, you mitt want to check out this link.  Granted, you would have to buy 6 ft of material and investigate getting to you, but the costs might work out better.  Glass should be significantly cheaper.

Hi guys,

I ended up buying 6 of the official 2010 world cup balls. I was thinking i could make a nice little display for it with a battery operated turn table base.
I put together these renderings to get an idea of what it could look like. I actually spent more time modeling the soccer ball then i did on the cabinet
but it all looks pretty good. PS ( I WANT A FESTOOL SOCCER BALL PETER SO MAKE IT HAPPEN )  [tongue]

Wayne if you get a soccer ball then I want Festool Vans shoes, bed sheets and of course a rugby ball for next years Rugby world cup  [laughing] [laughing] [laughing]

Alrighty then i modeled and rendered a quick sample of a square showcase for the soccer balls. There might still be hope for the round ones, i phone a company close by and they are going to be getting back to me on the sizes and cost of there glass tubes.

nice work !  now all the woodworkers in usa will have to make one for footballs!
