I have a clearvue mini I opened 5 minutes ago. It is cracked. The Clearvue company owner stated it may be able to be repaired with epoxy.

I will take offers the next few days. I am still thinking I may keep it and am going back and forth.

The plastic is not broken out, it is cracked only  at the  bottom near the 2" opening and spreads around and up maybe 4". All of the crack that travels up is BEHIND one of the MDF supports, which is a good thing making the repair possibly simpler.

The crack goes around TWO of the three areas separated by the 3 MDF supports

I will not take a return after you try repairing it. But if you look at it and do not want to try I will take a return.

I sell it as is. I will take a return and give a 100% refund, but the buyer pays return shipping.

Pick up is Woodstock IL if you want to come look at it.

NOTE*  THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE CLEARVUE Company OWNER PLEASE DO NOT TRY TO RETURN IT TO HIM.  I WILL FORWARD THE INFO THAT I SOLD IT IF I DO LET IT GO *

I have tried to take pics but the crack just does not show up. Either the flash blocks it or with no flash you just can not see it. Especially the crack on the inside behind the MDF support. I will try another camera later tonight.

Make your offers. I do honestly think this can be repaired and a deal for someone that wants to take a shot. I will decide if I am going to part with it in a few  days.

I think a solvent cement for the plastic would be a better bet than epoxy.  The solvent should literally weld the crack shut.

A quick Google turned up IPS Weld-On #3 and #4, both descriptions mention PETG.  The products are available from Multi-Craft Plastics.  No endorsement of this company, never dealt with them, and I'm sure there are other sources.

Nick,

I'm willing to give it a try.  I'm in Wheaton, so I'm sure we can hook up.  I will ponder$$$. and get back to you soon.

Dan

EDIT:  do you have a starting point in mind?

Sounds good Dan and Ned.

I was think adding another piece of plastic using the proper adhesive over the cracks. The the force of the vacuum itself will not be nearly as stressful on the crack that way.

I think properly welded, you wouldn't need a plate.

But hey, it can't hurt.  Put it on the outside so it has no effect on the airflow.

Ned

I think Ned is probably right.  What happened to it in the first place?  Please tell me you didn't pull a Dan and back over it with a truck.  ( like I welcomed my first ts55, still in the shipping box!!  )

I opened it and did not even take  the bubble wrap off because I could see the crack. The box was not damaged at all and the packaging is awesome. There was probably a little hairline crack they missed and just grew during the shipping. I literally have not had it more than 2 hours.

The owners of ClearVue are really nice and they do not want it back and are sending another. I have two CT 33, but I have so many dust collectors I just do not think I need two mini's. I am still going back and forth, but money can sway my decision pretty fast.

I have one offer of 60.00 so far. I should have a good picture of the damage on here tonight.

Okay I am convinced this can be repaired. I am willing to sell the brand new replacement for 115.00 including shipping.

It's safer for me to keep the damaged one and if something goes wrong I do not have any friends on the "FOG" mad at me. If the damaged one fails down the line I will have almost enough money to replace it with the 115.00.

The mini cost 135.00 including shipping. 120.00 plus 15.00 in my case.

I have not received the new one, but I will send it out the day I get it. The new unit  should ship out to the buyer on Tuesday or Wed.

So if anyone wants a brand new undamaged unit for 115.00 including shipping and can paypal me the payment before the Festool price increase let me know.

nickao

I am reducing the price to 105.00 including shipping to the lower 48. Paypal or credit card paymant before the Festool price increase. Brand new unit ships out to the buyer Tuesday or Wednesday.
