I was fortunate to study under Jim Krenov and one of his former students for a brief time before Jim's passing. He taught us to grind a hollow bevel onto the back of all our plane irons and chisels using a hand crank grinder and white Norton cool wheel grinding stones (80 grit)...turn the crank slowly so as not to overheat the steel. the hollow bevel allows for accurate enough honing on a waterstone by hand without use of honing guides. I still do much of the fine honing with my 13,000 grit waterstone the same way, but....I finally took the plunge and bought a Tormek T-7 to do my grinding and some of the honing. So I am offerring this well used hand crank grinder with a couple Norton cool wheel stones (a 3/4" and a very worn 1") and a diamond stone wheel dressing tool for anyone who wants it...$60 and it's shipped to you anywhere in the domestic US.
