Hi all,

Just wondered if there are any experienced SS fabricators on here who could give me a bit of guidance? I'm looking to build a small, simple shower tray for an en-suite, approx 800x800mm (32x32"). I'm familiar with general worktop (countertop) fabrication techniques, but I realise that a shower tray is going to present other problems with rigidity/flexing, weight support, etc. I also need some guidance on minimum falls for the base of the tray.

I've found lots of images of completed trays on the 'net, but nothing on fabricating them.

Any help would be gratiously accepted!

Thanks in advance!

I am not so sure it is possible to fab one.  THe SS distrubitors and companies I deal with will not warrant and hard seam in a tub/shower surround.  I dont know how a shower base would hold up.

Have you looked at a Shluter or Wedi system?  There are Cast Iron ones availiable as well.

It can be done.  My dad did it years ago in a house owned by Oprah Winfrey in Rolling Prairie IN.  Don't know how he did it, but they told him the same thing at the time, but he built it anyway and as far as I know there was never a problem with it.

We custom build one for one of those : http://unicat.net/en/info/MXXL24AH.html  Unfortunately, I wasn't involved in the constructions of the showertub... But I'm sure it can be done!

That is pretty impressive, love some of the detailing like the stainless steel detachable ladders. Too many computers in there though! Customers with more money than sense?

Most impressed that you were able to go down the contemporary route, having seen some private aircraft interiors for middle east customers, you were very very luck you didn't have to gold plate everything, and cover the toilet seat in pink and purple striped snakeskin!

We build several custom vehicles for owners in the middle east. Money really didn't matter... Although they didn't sink the money into useless gold plating but instead ordered the most unusual technical inventions. Most of it is hidden and you as an outsider will never see them.
But there are also people from the US who ordered some fancy trucks without having to worry about the price tag...

Thanks for the answers, even though they weren't what I wanted to hear.... the unimogs are way cool though, so I'll forgive you!  :D

I know they can be done from sheet, 'cos I've seen finished ones, but no info on construction. The reason why I'm going down this route is two-fold - one, I'm getting some sheet material FOC from work (obsolete stock) and two, I like a challenge!

I think I'm going to have to just try it, and hope for the best.

Maybe I'll start a new thread, and post updates on here to let you all know how I get on (I'll be using Festools, so that's OK)!!!
