Effective August 1, the Domino joiner will feature square indexing  pins on the face of the fence. In addition, there will be a new base support bracket that features independent swinging stop pins for mortising closer to an edge. Prices will be the same as the current domino joiner. The new base support bracket will cost $22.00.

And also effective August 1,  a new smaller tenon (4x20 mm) with a matching 4 mm cutter will be available.
Cutter (495-663) will cost $30.00 and a 450 piec box of 4 mm tenons (495-661) will cost $15.50.

"Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more to follow" That's all we get?

hi bob, do you think i should wait until august to spend my hard earned cash on a domino, or are these just accessories that you can add to your existing domino.

regards, justin.

I think it's a costly retrofit, but if I needed the Domino for a project now, I wouldn't wait. BUT I would certainly wait until I heard more info about the newer unit before I made a decision.

Does this mean the new fence will accommodate thinner material?  Stops closer to the edge and thinner material would be very important for productivity for me.

You can use the 4 mm dominos and cutters on the current domino joiner. More info coming on the base support bracket.

Bob,

Unlike some of the others who do not seem to think you are not providing enough information, I appreciate the information you do provide to us users on new and existing products.  You do this without regard to whether they are a customer of yours or not.

I think your insight is invaluable.  I am confident that when you know something you will pass it on the rest of us.

Thanks.

Neill

My previous comment about "that's all we get?" was entirely an act of jesting.  I hope it wasn't taken any other way, if so, I apologize.

Thanks Neil, but I just think  people are a bit "inquisitive/anxious" about these updates and want to know more as soon as they can and I totally understand that. No offense taken on my part, quite the contrary; it shows what a good product Festool has!
But I do post the info at hand and am trying to find out more ASAP.

No need - I knew the tone in which you posted; no problema. :) See previous reply.

  Ok, here's some more info.

The new fence has square stops flaps (that can be locked via set screws), are easy to adjust or replace and won't catch unintentionaly in the adjacent mortise slot. Also, the clear plastic cursor is now extended further back for easier alighnment to a set mark.
All existing DOMINO Accessories will work with the new fence.

The new Base Support Bracket is included with the new Domino, available as an accessory for $22.00.
It has integrated flip stops and allows for placement closer to the edge - moves center of cut from 37 mm (1-15/32") to 20 mm (25/32"). Very nice for smaller pieces.

I also have a need to use the Domino with thinner material (3/8") and opted to make a jig to hold the parts slightly higher than the base of the Domino machine.  This allows me to center a 5mm Domino in the 3/8 material.  It works very, very well and the Domino provides perfect alignment in all directions.  The assembly in which this step is incorporated previously used face frame biscuits which did very little to assure perfect alignment of the parts and thus required a very large glue-up jig to hold everything in position while the glue set.  Now it's a very simple clamping operation because of the Domino's superior alignment.  If you'd like to see a picture of the jig just let me know and I'll be happy to post one to the forum or send one to you via email.

While the 5mm works for me I'll have to consider the 4mm as it would give the same joining and alignment of the 5mm while allowing a little more material in the sidewalls of the mortise.  I really appreciate that Festool is constantly looking to improve their equipment!

So this is available soon? I've been saving my pennies for one. I'll wait until the new unit is available to Canadians. Thanks for the info.

Hi Bob, is it the model that has been i EU for som time now?

I am not 100% sure. Maybe someone (Forrest) from across the pond can chime in here.

Bob

thanks for the info bob, i will happily wait until august based on what you have told us here.

great stuff, thanks mate.

The cutter is 10mm long and you use the 20mm setting. Also a pic of the dog plate (dogs hidden)

And it was mentiond here the new pins are square? Hope not. Interesting the German and UK sites show the "new" Domino with the original pins.
