Some Sad News

As some of you may know, my partner of 13 years, Kate, was diagnosed with breast cancer just over 3 years ago. Just over 1 year ago, she developed secondary tumours in her lungs.

Unfortunately, around 3 weeks ago we discovered that she had also developed secondaries in one of her kidneys, but more worryingly also in her brain. Prior to that, we had expected her to have a couple of years left, however we were told she would have in the region of a few weeks to a few months. Within a couple of days of that diagnosis however, she suffered a couple of falls, and also had a major seizure.

It turned out that one of the tumours in her brain was extremely large, aggressive, and inoperable. She has deteriorated very rapidly over the last few weeks, and I'm sad to report that she passed away late last night in hospital.

Some of you I have corresponded with offline about Kate; a few FOG members even met her when we made our trip to New York back in September last year. That trip was on her 'bucket list', and it was undoubtedly one of her favourite memories. She even enjoyed a trip to the Tool Nut, despite it being about tools, due in no small part to the warmth with which we were received and the people we were fortunate to meet there. Thank you to those members, who made us feel so welcome.

Dear Jonathan

There is nothing that anyone can say to lessen the burden of grief that you have right now. My thoughts are with you and all the family.

Over the last few weeks my son has lost his father-in-law, my wife lost her father and my brother, a well established wood turner, died suddenly in his workshop. We are now at the stage when we can look back on their lives remembering the good times, their achievements and appreciate what they have left behind. I hope that you are able to reach that stage soon as well.

Take care.

Please do not reply to this - just be strong knowing that we are all thinking of you.

Jonathan, my deepest sympathy.

Many of us here on the FOG followed that New York trip with great interest. It was great to hear then and now how much that trip meant to Kate.

My best wishes to you now and into the future.

Stephen

Jonathan:

I am very sorry to hear this news. There are no words that will make this better, but we can share this moment with you.

I'm glad that you posted here. Just typing the words can help you get to acceptance of what has happened and help you deal with it emotionally.

My thoughts are with you. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help?

Thoughts are with you, Jonathan; since you told us last year for the big trip, I've wondered how things were going.  Glad you got to take her on her bucket list trip when she could still enjoy it with you.

Jonathon,

So sorry for your loss.

I hope Kate managed to do many other things on her bucket list, and I hope she didn't suffer too much.

Regards, Dick

Jonathan,
Please except my sincere condolences. Sorry to hear of the struggles that both Kate and yourself had to endure. Kate sounded like a real wonderful person. My prayers are with you both. Jim

Jonathan,

I am so sorry to hear the news and my thoughts are with you.  Meeting you and Kate last year was great and in the short time we spent together I certainly was impressed by your (as a couple) courage and spirit and devotion to each other.  You two shared so much in good times and not so good times. Either one of you would have swapped places if that would have been possible.

In time the good memories will gradually overpower the grief, pain, and loss to some degree.

You have friends all over the world who are thinking of you in this most difficult time.

Peter

I'm so sorry to hear this news. I too had wondered how you two were getting on after your trip here to the States.
It seems you both fought this to the end, and you stuck with her through out all of it. Please take care, and thank you for the update. We're all here for you when you need us, even if it's just to chat.
