I've heard & seen many horror stories from homeowners , but this is in the top ten... A licensed contractor (hired by h.o.) did this top notch post replacement.  [eek]  still can't figure out what he was thinking. However he had no problem invoicing the h.o. for the lovely home improvement.  Not quite sure "improvement" is accurate .

I like the rotted posts that get skinned with 1x on the lower portion of the post and the finish nails holding the 1x on are intended to hold the weight of the roof. [tongue] Seen that around here more times then I can count!

It's contractors like that that give the rest of us good guys such a bad name!

I've seen these before, except the last two - I love the use of the traffic cone!

These are some pictures I took whilst on holiday in Turkey. Seems like a perfectly normal toilet:

Until you realise it's a good 200-250mm from the wall, and the cistern is just balancing:

My favorite plumbing picture is the stall door cut to match the toilet profile. Now THAT is a 'scribe' job like no other.... [eek]

in all fairness, "american" (western) toilets are probably pretty hard to acquire in the "squatting" (eastern toilet) countries.    I bet after a week of renting an apartment in one of those countries, I'd be looking for a traffic cone too!

I actually found the squatting toilets to be rather comfy during my stays in other countries. Wasn't conducive to any long reading sessions though...

Squatting ...really??  They actually do that?

Yup the out houses in the middle east dont have seat they 2 feet prints on the plastic where to place your feet

In Mozambique those squat spots are done in concrete with foot prints where you're supposed to be. They sell them and you roll them to you favorite hole, hopefully hidden in an outdoor tall-grass enclosure, but not always. Every one I used didn't smell and they're cheap outside-the-home sanitation. Lots of the world functions this way.

When I worked in Italy ('97-'98) they called the footprints-next-to-a-hole toilets, "Turkish toilets".

I found them in many countries throughout Europe. They almost always used another country's name to describe them and they were quite common.

If I came across them in engineering or manufacturing facilities, they would at least have a hook to hang your coat...
