i've got 3 sortainers right now. A lot of my guitar building tools are in a 12 drawer and since that's what I've been doing lately, I've been keenly aware of how annoying the pullls can be. I actually have calluses on my index finger and thumb (on the sides) from opening the drawers on that thing.

Anybody got any tips on a better way to do it?

I tend to grip with my index finger under the green latch, then the thumb on top.

Maybe if I sanded the edges a bit, it wouldn't be so bad.

I know. As my kids would say: "First world problems"

Try to use your other hand for a while. I'll bet you could use your middle finger and thumb for a while too. Ian glad my wife isn't looking over my shoulder as I type this. [embarassed]

Take the drawers out one by one and give them a light coating of Armor All.  You can buy a small spray bottle at any auto parts store.  It makes all the parts slide so much smoother and way more easily.  You'll be amazed at the difference.  It also works great on the classic Systainer latches that are stubborn...

(A little tip I, and I'm sure many others, picked up at Festool training in Indiana...)
